Thank you.
I cannot say enough about the responsiveness for the folks at Woo. So far, world class service, IMHO. |

It's been a while since I have listened to headphones, at least 2 months or so. Summer evenings are usually spent tinkering with my other hobbies as I get to enjoy my other hobbies mostly in summer and fall.
This evening I decided to reach for the shelf with my trusty old Sennheiser HD600, plug in my Woo Audio WA6 and let it warm up for 30 min before I would sit down and enjoy an album or two. For some reason Pink Floyd the Wall was on my mind, an album I have not listened to in a very long time. As the Woo warmed up, with the big, fat Sophia Princess tube glowing in the darkness of my listening room, I eased the HD600 onto my head and hit play... Wow, there is so much magic going on with high impedance headphones and tubes. You know those moments when you listen to your system and you are covered in goosebumps? Magic... I didn't even realized how much I missed listening to headphones and how absolutely mesmerizing headphones can sound when the pairing is right. Although I have spent most of my time listening to Woo WA6 with the much more expensive ZMF Auteur Blackwoods, the much less expensive HD600 simply reminded me how much value they offer as does the WA6 amp! Silky smooth sonic signature, zero harshness, glare or hardness. Inviting, resolving without drawing attention to itself, the pairing sounds, natural, analog round and warm. The Woo sounds so right and wholesome, easily digging down to the very essence and emotional content that is so often absent with solid state. Love tubes with headphones. Total goose-bump listening session. |

WA6 is my first Woo Audio product before I joined the company nearly 4 years ago. I still use the amp. Now I own WA7 and WA8 as well.
A friend is loaning me his Takatsuki 274B tube to try on WA6. I wanted to see how far this little amp can go in performance. The tube arrives tomorrow. Should be a fun weekend. https://www.takatsuki-denki.co.jp/en...s/ta-274b.html

I’ve had my WA-6 for 11 years now and still love it. I’ll be interested to read how the Takatsuki compares the the Sophia Princess.

Yes............ a report, if you please.
Also, if you use the Sophia 274B in a Gen 1 WA6, these might interest you if you have 6SN7 adapters: https://www.sophiaelectric.com/pages/se/New_6SN7.htm Sophia offers a smaller 6SN7 if the blue doesn't work for you. And, after some digging, found TJ tubes, which offers a matched pair of the 6SN7 (from Hong Kong) for half of Sophia's cost. Am guessing (at least hoping) that Sophia is simply test-sorting the TJ tubes and relabeling as their own. Likely the same on the 274B and other tubes. After a few hours of listening to the WA6 Gen1 with Sovtek 5U4G and a pair of Tung-Sol 6SN7 tubes pushing a pair of Focal Clear it would be difficult to be more pleased. Great sound. Have a NOS JAN 5U4G inbound to try, as well. BTW - my WA6 is, according to the seller, pretty much NOS. He decided after ~20hr that he wasn't a tube person. So, it, like my Clear headphones, is still breaking-in.

I spent some ear-time with TA-274B on WA6. This tube hits the limitations of the amp. While it sounded great, the smoothest vocals I've heard the tube can sound a lot better. So I moved it over to my WA22 and wow the sky opened it and it took WA22 to a much higher level.
WA6 is still one of my favorite amps of any kind but it does have its limitations. The TA-274B tube is overkill for this amp. Best to take the TA money and upgrade to WA22 instead.

OK...... you've convinced me. I'm rolling the JAN Philips 5U4G back in to the WA6.

Rolled in the Sophia 274B in the WA6 Gen 1 and with the 6SN7 adapters and Sophia 6SN7............ it doesn't fit. So.......... have my choice of Sophia 274B or the pair of Sophia 6SN7 with adapters. To my ears, the Sophia 274B with a pair of matched Sylvania 6EW7s sounds better than the Sophia 6SN7s with the Sovtek 5U4G. Still have to break-in the JAN Philips 5U4G to compare, but the Sophia 274B is the best thus far. Also have a pair of Westinghouse 6DE7s to play with and some Sylvania (2 flavors) & RCA (3 flavors) 6SN7s and a couple of others to play with. Just can't go Sophia all the way. Really do like the sound the WA6 provides.
