Speaker cable with Focal
Hi all,
Just wondering what you were using with your Focals and why. I am using tellurium q ultra blacks - these were chosen as they sounded very cohesive and music seemed to flow well. The Focal tweeter is fast and resolving and needs to be matched carefully to avoid a system that sounds too hot IMO. Anyway - just wondering what you ended with and why. Cheers, Bill |

I usually stick with copper just because of how hot they can run. However, with the tweeter adjustment capability on the Utopia line this becomes less of an issue.
It really depends on the entire chain of gear you are using. I've been impressed with Devialet and Focal with the Crystal lamp cord and alternatively with big hefty monoblocks from Boulder and big ol' fat copper (I'd have to go back to get the specifics on the cable, it was awhile ago).

I use Shunyata Zitron Ananoda SC and Python IC's. McIntosh C500, MC 275LE mono's , Aesthetix Rhea and Romulus with Utopia III Scala V1. Very nice. It might sound brighter with silver but I like my current system. It is very smooth, sweet, relaxing, musical, non-fatiguing as well as other great characteristics.
I have heard these speakers with silver Analysis Plus. Need to be careful to keep the sizzling down. I preferred the copper Analysis Plus but this was with a SS system and not tubes. The cross over attenuation can reduce the amount of treble energy but it is unable to change the treble's character. |

Focal owners, you must try and get your hands on this little known brand called Tchernov Cable. Best complement and compliment to any Focal set up.
Reference with Utopia. Classic XS and Special XS with Electra Special XS and below for the rest of the Focal ranges. They REALLY bring out the mid/high beauty of the focal ranges, and were in partnership. They are very quiet sounding. The contrast seem to increase as you go up the range. After hearing many pairings, I would say this pairing seems to be the best. Best part, they aren't all that costly versus what's out there for the sound quality and build. I also read they are very well reviewed in Europe. The copper used are mined in Russia, and then treated to remove impurities and metal. The insulation is also excellent. Very good build too. I'm running Nordost Red Dawn but dearly want to upgrade to Heimdall 2s. But I'm running the lowly Chorus 714v.

I use McIntosh speaker cable right now but I think it sounded too bright.

I'm considering Kimber Monocle X right now. I've had good experience with all my Kimber Kables. The other option I am thinking about is the Oyaide Tunami IIs.

Ray Kimber will know what he's doing , and I do have respect for what he does. Just that cable companies have very different approaches. His is based on the braid. Sent from my iPhone using A.Aficionado |

Different dealers will always suggest different cables. Both of the higher end Focal dealers I have dealt with suggested Tara Labs.
