Unfortunately it's not looking good. I just loaded up the brochure and in their it's also only listing black and white for the centers. I suspect this could prove an extremely poor decision on B&W's behalf.

Not sure what the demand is for center speakers. Seems like they trying to keep costs down and limiting choices and advancement of tech in the center.

Would be great to have the same mid highs enclosures as the 800/802’s. In Canada, the center went from $7k to $9,500 and I’m not seeing that much of a change to merit that increase. But I haven’t seen nor heard any D4 so far.

I called to Davis Audio & Video, and was told they were not selling speakers but only provide full-installation service. "We are not retail but professional services". I said it was fine with me as long as I only pay for speakers, delivered, and no additional charges for any additional service. Left my contacts, and nobody got back to me...

Can't believe Magnolia is only option...
It was a real loss when Audio Consultants closed. I bought a lot of stuff from them over the years.

I looked at the specs of the new 802D4 and compared to the 802D3. What is interesting is that the D3 weighs 94.5kg (208lbs) and the D4 88.10kg (194lbs), so the old one is 14lbs heavier than the new.

Not that mass or weight transcribes into improved sound quality, but still an interesting stat.

The other thing I found interesting is they rate the 802D4 <1% harmonic distortion from 70Hz -20Khz and the D3 <1% from 80 to 20. The 803D4 new spec is not as good as the old and is the reverse of the 802. Probably a mistake in their printed specs, however I doubt you would ever hear the difference.

Some things that we hear, simply cannot be measured.

804 D4 vs D3 - 36.85kg (82lbs) vs 33kg (73lbs). Good! All new larger reverse wrap cabinet, larger body tweeter assembly, aluminum top-plate, aluminum bass pods, aluminum back side, and aluminum plinth. Can't wait!

Upd.
804 D4 size vs D3
H: 1071mm, W: 306mm, D: 391mm vs
H: 1019mm, W: 238mm, D: 345mm

I am not sure the cabinet has increased that much. The bigger dimensions are due to the addition of the bottom plate that the D3 does not have. Otherwise dimensions of the cabinet seem pretty similar.

+1 For Audio Solutions. About another 2.5 hours SE of AS is Hanson Audio in Dayton. It’s a great shop as well. They also have a location in Cincinnati.

Cheers,

Scott
