Default DAC 8 has arrived!

Yes, it's in the house!

Will be setting it up later today. Plan to connect the Oppo 83se to it. A Mac Mini as a music server is forthcoming.

Pictures to follow.

Mike

Mike
Looking forward to your observations about the DAC 8. Which finish did you purchase?

The DAC8 is now installed and playing music (Diana Krall at this very moment). Very initial impressions (only after 1 hr) - very relaxed presentation with very good detail (that's what is most impressive so far). Like other ARC components, break in will take several hundred hours. So, I will post comments on its transformation over the next few months.

Thanks,
Mike

Yep, it's the 'ole "burn in the Teflon caps thing..."

I know it well as I've been burning in my CT-5 preamp since getting it. I haven't been as diligent about it as I should have until recently, but it's getting better and better. I've taken to leaving it on during the day while I am at work with the music server feeding it source material, connected to the amp, but with the amp switched off. I then listen to it a few hours at night, and power it off overnight.

Mike...great news! Looking forward to more of your thoughts. I have posted a link to the dCS guide for computer audio in the past, which walks through detailed set-up procedures for different OS environments (Mac vs various Windows versions). Here it is in case you are interested and it helps: http://www.dcsltd.co.uk/page/assets/...uter_Audio.pdf

Hope it helps

I don't have a server yet so it will probably take me a few months to achieve several hundred hours.

Cyril - Thanks for the link. I will definitely read it.

Mike-

What's the rest of your system?

When it comes time, go for Amarra with the DAC8. I've had much better results with it rather than Pure. Also, I would suggest spec'ing out your Mac Mini with the most RAM possible and use an internal SSD for your OS, with an external HD connected by firewire for your music library. Feel free to PM me if you have questions when you set everything up.
