Bosch Glidesaw -- Miter saw w/ 14 inch crosscut

This unusual miter saw has no tubes that stick out behind it -- it uses a unique mechanism for it to act as a chop saw as well as a sliding mitersaw with a capacity of 14 inch crosscutting and it tilts either direction. The lack of tubes that are usually required for sliding in other saws allows it to sit withiin an inch of the back wall. It is dead on accurate. I tried out a number of different high quality miter saws with a large capacity including the Festool, but this one stood out.

The standard demo by a company rep is to beat the sliding mechanism with a 2x4 which does nothing to the accuracy of cuts (it IS that tough) -- BTW, the sliding mechanism has sealed bearings, so the effort of one finger is all that is required (obviously, with safety mechanism and a hand grip, safety requires using a hand).

The cost is about $750 -- added an auto switch for the vacuum beneath the saw so that when the saw comes on, so does the vacuum and the vacuum stays on for an additional 7 seconds after the saw is released. The dust pickup for MDF is perhaps 80% but does pretty well for real wood.

Because of its ease of use and large crosscut capacity, it replaced my huge old Delta radial arm saw

In reply to a previous posting about quality hand tools -- I still have my SK socket sets that I bought in high school back in the, uh, early (this hurts) 1960's...
