Well it was good, but nowhere near as good as our Chorzempa discs!
It wasn't touching said my wife, and that was exactly my feeling too.
Chorzempa does touch my heart and soul, and that is what music should do.
Oh this reminds me that I promised to post the pictures I took in the break when the "clavi-organist" Bart Naessens was ruffling through his sheetmusic. It's only smartphone quality, but you can see the instrument pretty well.

This is certainly an enjoyable disc. I've only heard his Toccata, so I was happy to hear more of his piano works. The Sonata and Poem give the pianist quite a workout, but she's fully up to the task. Excellent sound, too.

Default Purcell: Ten Sonatas in Four Parts

From the latest Presto Classical shipment...

Purcell: Ten Sonatas in Four Parts (1697)
Retrospect Trio

This is a mid-price reissue of the same recording that was originally released in full-price SACD format and no longer available. As Bart has mentioned here before, this is exquisite English chamber music performed by violin x 2, bass viol and harpsichord/organ. This reissued recording sounds splendid.

This is a wonderful recording. Korngold was one talented 12 year old! All of the pieces are played with great feeling. Excellent sound.

Default Couperin, F: Apothéoses

More goodies from Presto...

Couperin, F: Apothéoses
Amandine Beyer (violin)
Gli incogniti

This was reviewed by Gramophone in the Nov 2014 issue, but somehow I missed it. Thankfully John (Toccata) recommended it and he has good taste. I can confirm that the disc is a charmer with a lively chamber performance from a reduced number of players from Gli incogniti. The recording is immediate, full-bodied and crystal clear. My only gripe is that disc only lasts 57min34s.

Here is some background for this music:
Quote:
When he published his two "Apothéoses" in memory of Corelli and Lully in 1724-25, François Couperin was asserting his desire to promote a meeting of the French and Italian styles albeit from a very Gallic point of view. The idea was to convince the French Muses that henceforth one could say sonade and cantade, ie in their own language, a strategy already pursued in the much earlier 'La Sultane' and 'La Superbe'. Far from blindly imitating his idols, Couperin takes inspiration from their styles and adapts them to his own. The result is a delight for all to share with the musicians of Gli incogniti and Amandine Beyer, whose first recording for harmonia mundi this is. The ensemble founded by Amandine Beyer in 2006 takes its name from the Accademia degli Incogniti, a musical society active in Venice in the 1630s. The choice of name was motivated by the group’s taste for the unknown in all its forms, whether this involves experimentation with sonorities, exploration of new repertory, or rediscovery of the ‘classics’. The primary aim of its approach founded on the pleasure of a ‘union of tastes’ (the goûts réunis dear to François Couperin), achieved through collective work, is to convey to its listeners a committed and cohesive vision of the music it tackles.
