Default Tube Source in Florida ??

Getting ready to begin the tube rolling journey for my Fosgate phonopreamp and wondering if there are any reliable local tube suppliers in Florida - I am in Orlando but a couple hours drive is fine to start the learning curve

Thanks

Mark.......You might try contacting Sound Ideas in Gainesville. They have an on sight service and repair department, and I believe they have a fair stock of tubes.

I don't think you need to restrict your tube shopping to local dealers if you can't find what you are after. There are many tube sellers online that are reputable and provide quality tubes. I have had great success with Tube Depot, BNB Tubes (an eBay store), Doug's Tubes and others.

Thanks for the link Chuck .. I went down to the Vacumn Tubes and the owner Jim spent an hour providing tube enlightenment - This guy loves tubes - He suggested start slow and learn the character of the tube lines - I picked up a Telefunken 12ax7 and am about to slip it into V3

Thanks and I am off to roll one .... a tube I mean

I bought the Fosgate from Sound Ideas - I've been trying to get tube help from them since December - Nice guys but their service has been spotty

Your welcome. I have talked to that guy on the phone for a while too. He loves his tubes, like you say.
I just got some RCA 12AX7 tubes from him, that I really like.

I purchased some tubes from Ken Chait @ tubeman
TUBEMAN
6266 Branchwood Drive
Lake Worth, Florida, 33467
Tel: 561-434-3799 Fax: 561-434-3894

They are cryo 6BM8's for ASL Wave 8 wpc amps. I put them in a couple hours ago and love the way they sound on my Cornwall III's. Absolutely amazing. These amps were worked on and enhanced by Bill LeGall of Millersound (millersound) An absolute genius of the audio world. Thanks Bill!

Joe

The stock Fosgate tubes (I've found out they are Russian tubes) were fine but two tubes started "declining" after about a year - I was intrigued about tube rolling so that seemed a signal to start the journey - Jim at Vacuum Tubes has been a source of knowledge and also some awesome prices - I've gotten both NOS and used tubes from him and his insight on applying them has been invaluable - This guy loves tubes (He is also President of the American Tube Club)

Now I have a wonderful box of play tubes - Telefunken (ECC83 and ECC81) some terrific Bugle Boys, a Raytheon 12DT7 and a few Mullards - Rolling them in various combinations has been a real eye .... well make that an ear opener - You hear descriptions like "transparent" or "revealing" or "silky" but knowing how to influence that sound by plugging in a tube or two is a tweakers dream come true

If you have a tube need and want to talk to a live person you might want to check Jim out -- vacuumtubesinc.com
