Many, Many watts for exuberant listening! The room is about 5950 cubic feet.
about .5 to 1 watt for quiet listening about 60 mW when we have company and have to talk over the music. Last edited by GaryProtein; 02-20-2014 at 10:50 AM. |

I’ve done such a test some time ago using a RadioShack SPL meter and Patricia Barber’s interpretation of “Light my Fire” (from the Modern Cool album). Given the very high sensitivity of my Avantgarde UNO speakers (i.e. > 104 dB on 1 Watt at 1 meter) the numbers I have obtained are very interesting, though, probably they are less useful for most people.
* at ~60-70 dB (normal listen session in my case) the A-65 puts out 0.001 - 0.003 watts (i.e. a thousandth of a watt) * at ~85 dB (which I find very loud) 0.077 watts was the highest number displayed (i.e. less than a tenth of a watt) IMO it is very impressing that the A-65 sound marvellous even when used in the milliwatts regime. Another important detail is the fact that sometimes with classical music, during passages with very large dynamic variation, the meters indicate variations from 0.001 - 0.003 to 0.2 - 0.5 watts, i.e. the amount of power required increases with a factor of approximately 200 or more!!! Paul p.s. The settings of the SPL meter were "fast response" and "C weighting", while the dimensions of my old “dedicated” room were 4.7 x 3.6 x 2.4 meters (LxWxH).
