Epson Cinema Projector Fan Click
I thought the Epson Cinema projectors, 3010, 5010 and 6010 were supposed to be great projectors. I bought one a few months ago and used it once, the second time I turned it on about 3 weeks ago, low and behold, a clicking sound on the already loud fan.
It is unbelievably hard to listen to a movie if you are obsessing about an annoying clicking sound of a fan. Anyway, I called Epson, they are happy to fix it, if I send them the projector. I expect I'll get a refurbished unit back. Overall, a very disappointing experience, new unit, 1 use, annoying clicking from a, probably, very cheap fan. |

Perhaps you can swap out the fan yourself.

-- That's too bad Derek. Sorry, I'm not a projector expert, as for reliability and all that jazz.
I'm just like you; I've read about them, and the Sonys, JVCs, Runcos, Panasonics, Epsons, .... But I'm sure other members here are (experts); because eventually I'm going to get one; 3D, 4K, and the best for the money! |

-- Good tip from Ivan; swap it to another fan yourself.
Just pick a good quality one, that is ultra quiet, and of the exact same dimensions (for the screw holes). Good fans are cheap, only few bucks anyway. |

I asked that, Epsom said it would be very hard. I have a tendency to end up with extra parts when I fix stuff too

Maybe just swap out the projector for a new one . Father in law got a jvc with 4k (not native, upscale) and its do much better.

* JVC projectors, I've read good things about some of their models. ...A little bit more money though (than Epson or Panasonic), but still much less than a 4K Sony one ($25,000). ** I think that Barry Sonnenfeld, the director of Men In Black (MIB) trilogy uses a Sony VPL-VW1000ES SXRD projector in his own fabulous Home Theater room, back in the mountains of Telluride, Colorado. He also uses a Sony BDP-S790 Blu-ray/SACD player. And a Sony BDP-CX7000EX Blu-ray/SACD player as well. He even has a McIntosh MX-135 Surround Processor in that very same room. And also a McIntosh MC207 Seven-Channel Amplifier. Barry is a cool guy. ...And he's a NHT type of guy (speakers and subwoofers). Last edited by LordoftheRingsEE; 11-30-2012 at 01:34 AM. |

Epson was surprisingly nice, they offered to do a cross-shipment (with a CC hold) so I wouldn't be out for a few weeks, which was nice. So far so good.
