Vandersteen speakers
Are any of you guys using this line? I picked up a pair of inexpensive 2CE this weekend. This is one of the few lines where the tweeter has not irrated my ears! I like the way they are voiced and am wondering about the higher end line.

I have listened to the 5A's a few times and they sound pretty good. The price has gone up on them it seems a lot faster than some of other high end speakers.

Jim, would you honestly spend money on them?

No at their price I think there are too many options. The 5's can be used with lower powered ams since they have built in amps for the bass. Jim |

I"m going to keep these in the system a few more days. As soon as some wires show up the ML is going back in.
These are not a bad 2k speaker when new and as I said earlier, I do like the voicing. The mids are veiled and not as defined as I like but I'm going to try and listen to the higher end line and see if that issue has been resolved. I think my son will like these more than his computer speakers he has now! Gordon Last edited by Gordon; 06-15-2009 at 10:36 AM. |

Gordon- I've had 2ce's for years, I use them with the Vandy 2W subwoofer powered by an MC252. For the dollar there may not be a better speaker around, especially used. Adding the subwoofer opens up the mids and upper bass a lot. Many years ago I sold audio and had the opportunity to meet Richard Vandersteen, nice guy and a music lover as we are. He shared that he designed the 2ce's to be used with the sub and driven by a tube amp, very much after the delicious sound (h/t Alberto).
Enjoy! |

Quote:
The issues I had were.. 1) there was coloration or cabinet resonance and.. 2) I felt that the wooden dowel cabinet structure was the cause of the coloration. According to Klipsch, the cabinet must be solid with no rattles, vibrations or resonances {paraphrasing}. -Gregory
