Both combo's are beautiful pieces of gear, but the Accuphase is my favorite look. I would love to a/b these units sometime.
Regards,
Jim

replaced my esoteric p-01/d-01vu stack with the accuphase 900-901--
a lot more pallable sound ,great detail retreival, with a warm and lush sound that melts you away. it is amazing on sacd and almost as good on red book cds. great gear!

Very interesting swap. You comments seem to parallel those in this months Hi Fi news when they compare the TAD player to Esoteric.

The DAC chips are the ESS ES9018 8 channel models this time, one each per channel used in mono mode. The I/V converter is fully discrete. Have ordered them, will be out late July in Japan.

Correction:

four ESS ES9018 chips, not two, so effectively 16 DACs per channel!
Just got the DP-900 and DC-901, still burning in, but sounding superb!
Wow...love Accuphase. Ended up with Mac instead. This is the first ES9018 dual octet mono configuration I've come across. It's probably going to be the best sounding transport/processor in the world... This is how these DACs should be used! (See my MX160 wish list)

I heard the older M-8000 design was modeled after the Denon S1. Can anyone confirm this?

jim-- while the esoteric was great in the details retreival dept, it lacked ,imo, in the dynamics and muiscallity depts.
the new accuphase excells in all the above and simply renders beautiful sound.
heard the tad unit last yar, and was impressed, but not sure if TAD really sell their gear or only show it.

Wow. Congratulations. The Accuphase SACD separates are incredible.

btw, we're gonna need some photos!

I used to own the Accuphase DP85 and loved it so much i always regretted selling it.

I then moved on to the DP700 and thought it was flat and lifeless. I couldn't believe how dull it was.

After selling it fast, i discovered that system synergy might have been the cause of the bad experience. Too late

Anyway, just got back into the Accuphase camp with their 3800 preamp, which has made me look again at their digital offerings.

Anyone can chime in and compare the 900/901 to the previous generation which used different DAC chips ?

Thanks
Xavier

Anyone compared the sound quality 900/901 to EMM Labs DAC2X + TSDX?

I am running a DP-85 -> C-2800 -> A-65 setup and exploring if it is worth upgrading the front end.

DP-85 is nice but sometimes it is limited by 24/96 input if used as DAC alone. With some high resolution files slowing appearing now, there are times where i wish I can stream via USB something higher.

900/901 is nice as it can do 24/196.

DAC2X/TSDX had DSD streaming via USB which is even more impressive.
