Oh man... Esoteric seems to have more robust power supplies. But Esoteric will never have internal that is as beautiful as Accuphase 's when open the top cover, we will see just many circuit boards connected by many wires. Sounds wise, both should be outstanding

Correction DC-901
The DAC chip is indeed the highest grade ESS ES9018 8 channel, but instead of two, the DC-901 uses four of these, two per channel (positive and negative phase), so essentially 16 DACs per channel, 32 DACs in total.

The way to connect cable from transport to DAC is wildly different between these Accuphase and Esoteric, We can fine tune the sound with different XLR digital cables on Eso while have only a choice of supplied HS-Link cable on Accuphase. Do we have aftermarket HS Link cable anywhere ?

Both seem to use multiple DAC chips principle.

What are the differences between these two units and my P-03/D-03? It's safe bet to say if you pull the trigger on these, you will have to spend another 16K on the clock. It made a huge difference in my system.

It looks like a regular Ethernet cable. You may try it with your router to see if it works and pins are not crossed over or something.

AQ makes 4 grades of Ethernet cables:

Ethernet

If you mean the 900/901 then only once and that was whilst demoing a pair of Tannoy Kingdom Royals so it is difficult to say with certainty what they sound like except that they sounded great through the tannoys. The sound was not overtly warm (Esoteric amps) but I have no idea if this was the speakers or the source. I am guessing that the speed and sound is pacier as with most brands these days. Very few brands are moving towards a slower, thicker sound

I just confirmed that the HS link is indeed a regular Ethernet cable.

I tried over weekend with my friend a regular, $5 ethernet cable on his 800/801 combo, and it worked just as well (at least technically - haven't done any extended listening).

The Accuphase HS-Link cable also works inserted between his desktop PC and his router, no problems at all.
