Mr. de Sainte-Colombe le Fils - Pièces de Viole
Jordi Savall Will I ever get tired of hearing these works? I doubt it. I play them through my iPhone when I'm travelling, in my practice, and like now through our living room system. They keep thrilling me.

Earlier today, I played this in my practice.
(Yes I know Julian, he's not your favourite pianist! ) A patient asked me: "Is this Scarlatti, I mean, not the father, Alessandro, but the son, Domenico?". I do have music lovers amongst my patients. This is a very nice album by the way.

This is a beautiful recording, I have always had a soft spot for David Oistrakh since childhood when my father would play the Bach concertos. I still have his original album.

Vaughan Williams: Symphony No. 2 'A London Symphony'
Going back to this disc...
Vaughan Williams: Symphony No. 2 'A London Symphony' original 1913 version London Symphony Orchestra, Richard Hickox I played it several times and this music is growing on me. The score has a brooding mood with beautiful passages. The performance is excellent and the recorded sound is top-notch (I have the SACD version). This won Gramophone magazine's Record of the Year award for 2001. |
