Vintage Office system gets a little sweeter...
Good evening gang...
I thought I would share a nice little upgrade that I implemented this week in my Vintage office system, that is based on some of my vintage Crown gear... namely my IC150A preamp that I bought in 1977, which had been teamed up with an original Crown DC300 Amp for many years. Last year I snagged a very nice DC300A amplifier which I have been extremely pleased with. My only caveat was that the wood case I was using for the amp was the "older" style case that was designed for the original amp. I had been looking for a matching walnut case to match the cosmetics of the walnut case on my IC150A preamp. A week ago Sunday I won an eBay auction for one of these cases, which are not that easy to find these days, especially in very good condition. I won the auction for $179. Monday evening the new case arrived, and I am very pleased with it. I have been busy and sick with the flu so this is the first chance I've had to put this thread up. The new case is in truly excellent condition. It had some very minor touch ups needed on the inner black trim areas, easily fixed with a sharpie marker. It also had one small goo spot about the size of a dime on the top right surface of the case, easily removed with some very fine steel wool. I then applied a coat of some Watco rejuvenating oil to the cabinet, followed by some Scott's liquid gold.  A couple more shots of the new case:   Here is a shot of the amp in its older style case, with its newly arrived replacement on the left, after sprucing up and polishing.  Let's get started with the replacement...  Here we see that the old case has a good bit of wear on the inside bottom from taking the old amp in and out over the years...  Let's get the new case in position and feed the cables through and get hooked up....  And finally reinstall the amplifier, with its new clothing, into the system.   Looking good! Now let's get the bigger picture...    I couldn't be more pleased with the cabinet, or the way this little office system is shaping up. Back in the day, this amp and preamp were a dream combo. I had the preamp, and the original DC300, but the DC300A was over my young head....this is a truly nostalgic system, harkening back to a time when Crown was really making a great name for themselves. I never tire of listening to it while I am in my office, and now I can hardly get enough of its appearance, elegantly understated and very professional in appearance. Thanks for looking gang..... Pete.......This photo of the Crown IC 150A and the DC 300A tells the whole story. Both components in their matching Crown cabinets are beautiful. You have been hoping to find a matching cabinet for the DC 300A for a long time. I am happy you were able to find one in such fine condition. Way to go, sniper!

Pete,
What a great find! Your Crown gear looks brand new and the new cabinet looks excellent. I thoroughly enjoy reading about your Crown adventures and every time you post something about it, I find myself upstairs dusting my Crown gear. It's been with me since 1977 and I have no plans to ever let go of it. Now where did I put that dust cloth?

Thank you gentlemen....I too have no plans to ever let go of my Crown gear. It's always served me well, has been extremely reliable and sounds excellent. In the 36 years I've owned my IC150A preamp, it has had only one repair incident, and that was simply to replace the caps in the power supply.
To this day I look at the available Crown gear out there, in particular the Distinction series of products that came along in the late 70's or early eighties. These premium products were pretty pricey but can be found for reasonable prices today. The main problem there is having the space for yet another system. But you never know....  Pete
