Fascinating work you've done there. I got some so-so pics of the lunar eclipse several months (a year?) ago with my D300 and an older 300mm lens. It's a bit tough to do here in Atlanta with a good bit of ambient light and a lot of surrounding trees. Thanks for sharing, and let us know when you spot one of Clarbin's cats!

Oh, as much as I like the astronomical pics, you can continue with your existing avatar theme!

I've been meaning to get back to this thread. Great photos and a lot of serious gear yu've got. I've always been interested in this stuff. I don't have a lot of gear, I do have a Celestron C80 refractor. A nice scope in its class, I still lug it out from time to time. I never did get into the photograpy end of it, that's pretty serious money to it right...I guess my audio hobby always took front seat!

I always dreamed of moving into something like the Celestron C11 or C14 cassegrain designs, or perhaps something comparable in the Meade line. My favorite scope targets: Moon, Saturn and Jupiter...not necessarily in that order.

Great shots once again, I'd love to see your gear and setup.

Thanks Pete. I'll post a picture of my scopes set up with all of the extras sometime this week.
For planets/lunar/solar- the best is refractor. The C-11/C-14 by virtue of aperature alone will be great for planets doing visuals. My CCD camera was only $2.5k , I have a friend down the street from me that has a SBIG that costs in excess of $10k- he does a lot of imagining of the "local group" and of planets.
Last I checked ,Celestron has a complete C-11/C-14 rig. These are very good from what I understand- you just have to keep these scopes collimated and your good.

Very Cool Greg...I'll look forward to seeing the pics of your gear. Celestron's C11/C14 series has evolved quite a bit over the years, mostly in the mounts and the built in GPS. Amazing how much is packed into these scopes these days. Just talking about it makes me want to get my scope out again! I haven't seen Saturn in quite a while. I did take a look at Jupiter not too long ago. Both are great scope targets.
