I thought that preamp used 2 of a 6N1p and a 6CG7

The output tubes are Psvanes KT-88 IIs I have since sold. A few pages back here I posted less than glowing reviews. I'll have to look at the photo again ( not showing up on my tablet) and figure which rectifier I had in at the time.

What is the date on your LP2? Mine is an older model 2013 with a 6cg7 in back and 6922 up front. Yours looks like a 6cg7 like mine.

Interesting... Dennis has evidently changed the LP-2 design over time. He built mine in March 2014 and this was the description:

Quote:
The LP-2 ( Line Preamplifier, second version) uses a pair of 6FM7's in the gain buffer stage with another 6FM7 in the DC high voltage circuitry. The rectifier is a 5Y3. The 6FM7 are a dual dis-similar triode vacuum tubes. One section is the equivalent of a 6SL7 for gain and the other section is a lower impedance 6SN7 for the current source output buffer.

I have read nearly every page of this thread and have not seen much reference to those that have used the 6L6GC power tubes. I was going through my tubes and found a pair of old school RCA 6L6GC Black Plates and decided to give them a go. This is a very articulate tube. Here is a photo of my amp with the RCA 6LCGC's, a pre Gorbachev 6N1P, and a Phillips 5R4GYS rectifier. Does anyone think I am stressing these power tubes out with the voltage from the rectifier? I would hate to ruin a pair of somewhat rare and expensive tubes.

I don't think they're in danger of being overdriven at all. That rectifier has a higher voltage drop than a 5U4GB.

"I have read nearly every page of this thread and have not seen much reference to those that have used the 6L6GC power tubes."

Well, welcome to the 6L6 GC club! I for one love the Russian 6L6 GC's with about everything, including running them when my preamp carries 56's: Plenty of detail, nice bass, no brightness whatsoever. I reported a few posts back that, to me, in my rig, this is the most resolving tube at hand. Thanks FloridaBoy for making me aware of the 6L6 GC. I'm ordering the Gold Lion KT66 hoping it will combine the traits of the 6L6 GC and the GL KT88.

I've run these beauties with every rectifier without any issues, so I would say the rectifier you're using is no problem. Those RCA's sure look great!
