B&W 804D4 Owners Club
I preordered 804 D4, was told to stop by with 50% deposit then wait for minimum 3-4 months for delivery. Fine. Then... got a call on Thursday "Your speakers arrived". Crazy fast!
Visited shop today, paid full amount, and we scheduled delivery on Thursday... Can't wait. Not sure if I am gonna sleep well till Thursday haha Speakers numbers are first thousand, D.o.M. 23/6/2021 Last edited by mhasman; 09-26-2021 at 01:39 AM. |

At weekend, I finally put my new 804D4s together. Not sure if I can write good review, and there is not much to say. Speakers produce amazing, warm realistic music. Details, clarity, balance - everything highly meet expectations. My setup is stereo only (2.2), but it is very good for movies, too.
As mentioned in another thread, so glad that I didn't buy D3 and patiently waited for 2 years for D4 release. My biggest question is what to do now with two ASW 10CM S2 subwoofers. Those subs were completing CM9 speakers well, being set as left-right. I'm not sure if need them with 804D4 anymore, or if upgrade with pair of DB4S, or get DB3D (or pair?)... |

This goes against the grain of popular opinion but the truth and reality is full range loudspeakers like the 804D4 do not require subwoofers for most music. I can provide a strong case as to why but only if you are interested. In short if you do not use or plan to use your speakers for special effects tracks, like those done for movies, you can competently run them sans the subwoofers.

I would disagree. Subs help.

Yes--subs help an incredible amount.
Also, this idea of "do not require..." subs...OK, that's fair, but it is also kind of funny in this context. Do any of us really "require" $12,000 speakers? This hobby is not about requiring, it is about going the extra mile to get magnificent sound
