Default Winter Olympics Opening Ceremony

While I was out ti dinner last evening I recorded the opening ceremonies for the Vancouver Games. I stayed up and watched a good part of it when I returned. The visual effects using all of those projectors was pretty impressive. At one point it really looked like whales were swimming across the floor of the venue.

Until last evening I thought KD Lang's version of Leonard Cohn's "Hallelujah" on her Hymns of the 49th Parallel was top notch. Last night her version towards the end of the telecast was emotional and note perfect.

So far YouTube does not have a quality version of last nights performance posted as of yet.

KD's performance was nothing short of phenomenal. By far the best ever performance by an artist for a sporting event.

Having said that, the 'flame' ceremony was downright disastrous. Not one of Canada's shining moments.

KD has a way of really coming through. Here is an old clip. This is before she was well known. I think it is from around 1989 at the Song Writers Hall of Fame Ceremonies. When she walks on stage she gets polite applause. By the end she has them jumping to their feet, no longer an unknown.

As a local resident I can't believe what an amazing job they did with the opening ceremony! That stadium has never looked that good, and definetly has never sounded that good! KD was amazing, if any of you are looking for a great sounding bluray, pick up hers from London...really good!

Overall the openings wasn't bad but I think that it did go on a little long. I found myself using the advance button quite a bit past half way. Not being a big KD Lang fan I think i zipped through most of that performance. I think they recovered well during the torch lighting.

That was not long compared to the Beijing Opening Ceremonies. I am not sure if you are aware that NBC cut a lot out of the Beijing Opening. I was in Asia at the time and they showed the entire show without commercials. The US audience saw most of the highlights but you missed some very impressive acts.

It just takes a long time for all those athletes to march into the venue.

I thought the opening was fantastic...the hiccup was unfortunate but everything else went well.
