Welcome to the thread Bob. I take it you're a musician, what's your instrument?

Brahms: The Piano Concertos
Nelson Freire, piano Gewandhausorchester, Riccardo Chailly conducting Decca 2006 (16/44 FLAC) I'm listening to disc 1 of 2 this morning, Concerto No.1 in D minor. It's a beautiful piece of music, and Freire and Chailly do it justice. Sound is quite good as well.

JS Bach: Ouvertures
More new music...
Bach, J S: Cantata BWV119 'Preise, Jerusalem, den Herrn' arr. A. Bernardini for orchestra Orchestral Suite No. 1 in C major, BWV1066 Orchestral Suite No. 3 in D major, BWV1068 Cantata BWV194 'Höchsterwünschtes Freudenfest' arr. A. Bernardini for orchestra Orchestral Suite No. 4 in D major, BWV1069 Ensemble Zefiro, Alfredo Bernardini I have several version of these works, but this disc stands out for its biting performance which Gramophone called "thrillingly theatrical with a sense of joyful drama". The recorded sound, as usual from this French label, is top-notch. |

Perlman with Levine conducting the VPO has always been my go-to CD for Mozart's violin concertos, but recently I got on a Carmignola kick, so picked up this set. Period instruments but without the coarseness that sometimes results. Very well recorded with a comfortable intimate acoustic.

Today I received this new Linn recording--wow! It is full of hair-raising virtuosity. Wong makes a number of changes to the printed text--embellishments, cadenzas, etc., and the results are stunning. Great sound, too.
