Triton vs Hydra AV
I recently was without my Triton for almost two weeks, and used my Hydra AV in its place in my two channel system. While the AV did a great job, after reinstalling the Triton, I realized just how much better the Triton is. The sound appears fuller, quieter, and deeper, with better definition.
However, I love the form factor of the AV. The Triton is on the second shelf from the bottom in my rack. Getting the cables (Zytron Pythons and Cobras) to stay securely seated in the outlets is a pain. However, with the AV, by sitting on the floor with the outlets on top, it was easy to make good, secure connections. If it was possible, I would trade in my Triton today, for a Triton that used the AV form factor. Granted, it would be taller, but that is a small price for better AC connections. I could place my current Triton on the floor, but sitting flat it consumes to much space. Standing on edge would be great, but the spikes don't attach to the front. |

+1...I'm extremely happy with my Triton as well.
Are you considering adding a Typhon?

Easy DIY project solution. Can be made of wood, plexiglass, or what ever else you want to try use. Measure and cut out something like the diagram below, this will allow the cables to be supported and should reduce the tendency for them to pull out of the power sockets. Take this piece and screw or glue it to a base and you ready. Could also mount to rack shelf once position is determined. You could also make the base large enough for the Triton to sit on. Of course you can use items for support: think DIXIE or Styrofoam cups or......
The idea of course is simply supporting the cables, you have to decide how pleasing to the eye you need/want it to be.

Can you stand your Triton up (ie faceplate down) to give you the same result albeit without the nice looks!?

Yes, but it won't have carpet piercing spikes to anchor it to the wood under the carpet. It would be nice if the Triton face plate had inserts in each corner to accept their spikes. |

I reckon you could DIY something fairly easy though, even if it were a basic Herbies interface.

Just a heads up, Grant at Shunyata mentioned to me once that this was not a "recommended" practice with their conditioners....I think their new AV conditioner was designed to address this issue.
