The mids, transparency and speed were very good. Apart from that, they sounded like an other brand compared to the 40.1 and the P3ESR. Compared to the 40.1, I am sorry to say that the HL5 sounded like budget speakers. I have little hope that the SHL5 could sound really better.

First try to reposition the speaker to reduce the bass. You can restrict the air moving through the ports. Either stuff one or both ports. As a more refined solution you can use a bundle of drinking straws and fine tune the length of the straws in the bundle. Be careful not to drop anything inside the ports.

Isolate the Skylan stands from the floor with something else than spikes. Pro Audio Bono Anti Vibration Feet ( or Still Points) will do wonders. Isolate also the speaker from the stand : forget the Q Bricks. They do almost nothing. You may use anti vibration feet for maximum result or simpler wood disks made of very dense wood. PAB's Lignofol is great for this. Other question : which amp do you use ?

How does their level of transparency and detail retrieval compare to other speakers in their price range? (Imagic S1 MKII, Wilson Sabrina, etc.)
