I'm using 5V4GA in my Inspire KT88 SE, with 20 watt output transformers. They are less demanding than a 5AR4 / GZ34, so you should have no problems at all.

I am really liking the re-issue Genalex Gold Lion KT66 in my Inspire SE KT88 HO amp. When paired with my Sylvania 6SN7 and vintage 5V4GA, it produces a really well defined sound with excellent vocals/midrange, tight bass, and big soundstage. Several reputable tube dealers (Jim McShane, Kevin Deal, more) rave about them.

Trying to decide which I like better the GL KT66 vs GL KT88, in the same setup. Will take some time and more breaking in of my tubes.

The Tung-Sol KT66 is more like a 6L6GC. It draws the same current as a 6L6GC. A true KT66 draws about 40% more current.

Thanks for that. This rectifier seems to have become popular relatively recently in this forum. so I need to try it.

After the Russian 6P3S-E (gold pins) the Genalex KT88 is my favorite. I've been considering the KT66 as a middle-of-the-road between those two. The KT88 offers excellent body but lacks slightly in detail. The 6P3S-E is excellent in everything else, just not as dense as the KT88. So I figure the KT66 may be ideal. I'll try that with a 5V4G/GA soon.

I realize the Capacitor debate has been dead for a while but I just went a little cap crazy after reinstalling 1.5uf Audyn True Copper Max in my LP-2. They seem to be settling in and have added a lot of body and depth to the sound. To me they seem a little rolled off up top still, kinda miss the sparkle of the poly caps I removed.

I just ordered .22uf Jupiter copper foil caps for my 6V6 amp to replace the Auricap XO currently in place. I also ordered .022uf and .1uf Rel Audiocap exotica TFT caps for bypassing in both the pre and power.

I will update as things unfold here. I was looking at V-caps CUTFT but the Teflon Rel caps were 1/3 the price.

I figured this could be a possible worthwhile "affordable" upgrade to my system.

Not Tonian, but I had the PHY-HP SAG drivers in Auris cabinets. Excellent drivers but they need the 'right electronics' they are extremely revealing.

You'll probably find the Jupiters to be similar in tone to Audyn True Coppers - they are of similar construction. If I'm not mistaken, Decware uses them as coupling caps on all their amps. One challenge with the Firebottle amps is their small chassis - most of these high end caps take up a lot of real estate. It makes bypassing an uphill battle. In addition, once you add the cost of the coupling caps and the bypass you could possibly move up to a "better" cap, such as a Dueland VSF, provided it could fit.

Anyone ever try a new re-issue "Tung Sol" 6SN7 and give it time to break in? I see that one can order them tested for low-noise and having matched sections. Possibly the same tube as the Electro Harmonix.
