Hello all. I’m new to the forum but a long time Shunyata user. I recently upgraded from Hydra 8v2 with Anaconda and Python CX cables to a Triton V3 / Typhon QR with Sigma EF feeding the Typhon and Sigma NR’s on all of the components. I have an all analog system with a tube phono stage (BAT VKP10-SE with SuperPak) and a tube hybrid integrated amp (BAT-VK-3000SE). I’ve been thinking about the new power cords and have an Alpha NR v2 I’ve been trying with the phono stage. In the past, there seemed to be a suggestion that the EF cords may be better for tubes. Is that the same for the new XC cords? Been debating on whether to try a Sigma EF in lieu of the Alpha V2. I’ve seen the great reviews on the new cords, but the Sigma prices haven’t really come down which makes me wonder if trading a Sigma v1 for an Alpha v2 is a good trade. I also have Sigma NR v1 on two Rel Subs and wonder if I’m better trading those for one sigma xc for the Triton/Typhon. Appreciate any thoughts.

Welcome to the forum mrenardsmith, let me just start with saying that a nobrainer here is to get the Sigma/Omega XC for the Wall->Typhon and upgrading the umbilical to V2 XC as well.
This will upgrade all of the components sound in 2 swoops. As for the next questions the general rule is that you can upgrade sigma NR v1 to alpha NR v2. Now, there is a gauge difference so I would add that if there are current sensitive gear that responds highly to difference in DTCD capacity then you might want to leave that on the same Sigma NR V2 level. If you have time and possibility to get a trial Sigma NR V2 then this might be a good idea. The XC on tubes question I can't really comment on with any experience as I'm a solid state guy. But I would think that both XC and NR V2 cables would sound great but one lacks NR capability. This might be even more critical if you have lots of digital gear on the same circuit. Most systems today do. But maybe there is a tube-head that can comment on this with the V2 cables. |

Crion, thanks for the reply. I’m an all analog system, although I suppose my Avid Turntable Reference SP power supply may have some digital components related to the speed control. The sigma/omega XC for the triton/typhon sounds like a good idea. One question is what to do with the original umbilical. I supposed some Typhon QR owner somewhere may need one, but can’t imagine there is a market for them.
I probably have overkill with Sigma NR v1’s on two rel subs and my turntable power supply. Maybe downgrade those to Venom’s to pay for the Sigma XC PC and umbilical and achieve an overall better outcome? |

So, it really comes down to how much are you willing to invest in the power system. I like what Crion had to say. All good advice, especially upgrading the Tv3 and TQR cables to Alpha XC or Sigma XC. That will be a huge step forward. I will give you a couple of levels to consider if and when you decide to upgrade the component power cords. This all assumes that you live in the US or Canada?? Good Performance to Cost Ratio Avid turntable - Venom V14 Digital BAT phono - Alpha v2 NR BAT integrated - Alpha v2 NR Subs - Delta v2 NR Better Performance - harder on the wallet Avid turntable - Venom V14 Digital BAT phono - Sigma v2 NR BAT integrated - Sigma v2 NR Subs - Alpha v2 NR

Caelin, many thanks for the response and advice. I’ve really enjoyed your products over the last 15 years and they have been a critical piece of my audio setup. I’ve gotten the upgrade bug over the last 6 months and the new products have been outstanding as well. I’m in the US, btw.
The one interesting recommendation from your list is the Venom V14 digital on the turntable. I went with the Sigma NR because the power supply is high current (100-240vac 50/60Hz 300 watts max). Given your advice, however, I’ll take it! Many thanks |

Hey Caelin - quick question. For purely digital such as Clock and Streamer, I am using an Alpha NR V1.
Would i be better served changing this to a Venom V14 digital, assuming you provide this for Australia? Thanks! |

What I would recommend second would be the Venom V12 NR.

Ok thanks - I’m assuming though that the existing Alpha V1 I’m using would be better than the Venom 12 NR in this application? If not, could you briefly explain why? Thanks again for your time Caelin... |

For those reasons, I prefer a shielded power cord with NR filters specifically designed to remove impulse noise as generated by SMPSs and motor commutator noise. The Venom V14 Digital is a specialist specifically for this type of application. We actually developed it in our medical division for large pumps and RF generators used in heart surgery.
