Get firmware 3.0 on iPod Touch for FREE & safetly.

Get iTunes 8.2 from Apple.

Google:
iPod Touch 2G Firmware 3.0 IPSW iPod2,1_3.0_7A341_Restore.ipsw

iPod Touch 1G Firmware 3.0 IPSW iPod1,1_3.0_7A341_Restore.ipsw

If downloaded file is in zip format then change extension from .zip to .ipsw. Your computer will ask if you want to keep .zip or "use .ipsw" click OK to use .ipsw.

3. Connect your iPod Touch to computer

4. Start iTunes 8.2 & Select iPod Touch from devices list

5. Hold Shift (Windows) or Option (Mac) and click Restore.

6. Locate iPod Touch ipsw file you just downloaded.

7. Do not disconnect till iTunes has completed updating iPod Touch

8. The trick to get a "clean" version of the OS 3.0, you need to hit "Restore" again while iPod is still conntected to iTunes. Yes, you are restoing the iPod Touch twice.

Since you didn't buy a copy of the OS from Apple, iTunes does not have the file in its folder, but seeing your iPod Touch with the 3.0 firmware iTunes will trigger a download and fetch a copy from Apple for your computer.

That’s it, Now enjoy your iPod Touch 3.0 Firmware.

I was contemplating whether or not to update for $10 because I don't really use the new features. But it's a no brainer when I can get it for free. I've now updated both iPod touch at my house. Thanks again for sharing!
