Default Gryphon Mephisto
Has anyone heard, owned or own the Gryphon Mephisto amps, or other amps in the Gryphon family, and care to share their impressions?

Have been reading about these powerful Class A amps with tube like sound, but there are limited options to hear them as they don't have a US distributor.

I know Howie owned Gryphon, not sure if they were the Mephisto's.

Thanks for the info Masterlu.

I've found and spoken to a few Mephisto owners on Audiogon. They have been very complimentary of the Mephistos, but so far they have been primarily located in Asia.

True. It is a negative consideration and a practical man would run in the opposite direction. But alas, I'm not always a practical man when it comes to this hobby.

Right now I have two separate amp/pre combos of well regarded companies from Switzerland. In both cases, any major repair or upgrade would have to be sent back to the factory. It is inconvenient, and you could argue impractical. But I find it's worth it for the sonic benefits and especially since both companies provide exemplary customer service; customs paperwork notwithstanding.

In any case, that's why I was looking for personal impressions on the Gryphons including experiences with reliability and customer service.

I believe Rockport uses , or did use, Gryphon amps in their room in Maine. Not sure of the model , tho..

Gryphon is well known for their great reliability and excellent customer service.

Further, Rockport do use Gryphon amplification during development and demonstrations within their fascilities.
