I have a 1960 Telefunken radio but mostly listen to Tune-In Radio.
I would be interesting to compare both DAC's. Mine is still languishing in Customs. |

Agree. I looked at it pretty closely and read up quite a bit on Abbas, and there are many great comments about how good it sounds. If had not needed at least 192kbps for the other streaming I do, I would have wing'd it for the Abbas too. Even if you have to wait 'til xmas, its probably going to be worth the wait.

I use Spotify premium. Spotify is moving to a lossless format. I'll give Tidal a spin after the DAC settles in. I do think the 'future' is streaming and believe it only get better.
I unpacked the DAC and have to install the tubes. Packaging was excellent. The bad thing is my preamp is acting up. I'm going to give the sockets a Deox and Pro Gold treatment. BTW, I ordered a Made in USA preamp that uses 4 6SL7's from Erhard Audio with...the horror...tone controls and a balance control. When on zero they are not in the signal path. It also has a loudness switch. Back to the 70's. Why? Because there are so few really good recordings. It will be a few weeks B4 it ships. |

We talked for a while and I liked what I heard. P2P is cool but circuit boards, done right, are fine too.
His Ray amp looks fine too. It has evolved quite a bit. Off to clean tube sockets. BTW, what do you stream that requires 192kbs? Last edited by FloridaBoy; 11-23-2018 at 05:27 PM. |

Agree, his stuff will sound nice. I think he makes the (unique) boards, so my thought is IF I planned to keep his gear for a long time, I'd have him provide a spare (backup) board for each component in case he ever retires or stops business. Went through a similar situation where I loved my former gear, could not repair it since the boards were no longer produced, ended up having to buy all new gear and sell the former for parts. Ugh.

Getting any sound to come out yet for an early first impression? Curious to know how much different it is than your Havana DAC... |
