Default Cleaning Lady Bent My Stylus Badly (Clearaudio Virtuoso V2 Ebony)

Just noticed tonight that my cleaning lady bent my stylus badly (been listening to Wagner's Ring on CD since then) and now it skates across records like Dorothy Hamill. Any suggestions on a replacement - I'm guessing cart will need replacing? Bummer, its only 3 months old. Chris

I have a buddy who's cleaning lady did the same thing. Since he had told her not to clean the audio equipment he made them buy a new one. It was a Lyra, so not cheap

It happened to me a while back. They say yes, ok, no problem, we'll remember, etc. but they just don't get it.
Sorry to hear the bad news.

Its super annoying since I told her not to and even put a card out on the TT to remind her - but trust me guys, you dont want me to go back to cleaning my house myself. Yikes! Question is, do I go with the same cartridge or a different one? Clearly I need to get a dustcover to prevent this happening again.

My cleaning lady did exactly the same thing on my Graham Nightingale II cartridge.

Luckily, she had personal liability insurance which covered the cost of a replacement cantilever/stylus ($1100 U.S.), so I didn't have to beat her to death.

The cartridge went back to the Immutable- Transfiguration factory in Japan which sent it back "better than new" because they included a couple of improvements at no extra cost.

So, my suggestion is to consider having the cartridge factory rebuilt. It will cost less than a replacement, and might just be even better than it was before.

Thinking back, I have actually had several cartridges rebuilt over the years -

A Koetsu - I sent back to the factory - cost a bunch to replace a broken cantilever - but it was a humongously expensive cartridge so it was worth the cost.

A Benz Ruby II - broken wire - I actually sent to SoundSmith who repaired it at minimal cost.

A Van den Hul - which Mr. Van den Hul cheerfully repaired at no cost.

And the Graham Nightingale, which I mentioned in the post above

And, I have always been very satisfied with the results.

Chris... Sorry to hear this; unfortunately ClearAudio does not repair their cartridges. They will however offer you a trade in credit toward the cartridge of your choice.

Thanks Ivan. I'm thinking of upgrading given the trade in discount - would you recommend the Maestro (mm) or Talisman (mc) - I have a phono pre. I know you want to recommend the DaVinci, but take pity on me! : )
