Nice review Myles. From the sound of it it has better transparency and drive vs the cj TEA1.

pity I live so far away as 3 inputs is my type of phono stage

You make a good point vis a vis the TEA1bc.

It seem to me that one really needs the gain in the phono more than the linestage. When I took the Avid and set the gain for roughly the same as the cj (53 vs 50 dB), it had the same "polite" sound (and that was at the time with the Titan i that has a reasonable 0.5 mV). When you use phono sections such as the Allnic, Avid, Doshi, Valvet, etc. that all have gobs of gain up front, the system's dynamics really come to life.

The other issue is the input sensitivity of the LP140M (0.5V) vs the ART amplifier (1.8V). The former made up for a lot of other issues though probably the latter is a lot quieter.

Great review! Phonostage is very hard decision to make. Good reviews make it easier. Of course at $10k msrp only way I'd be able to have one is in a couple years on the used market.
Thanks!

Kind of tough to make this a hard and fast rule. It really depends on how noisy everything is, as to how far you can run things. Can't really say the TEA1 had a "polite" sound when we reviewed it.

Almost broken-in. Hope to finish and have the review done by end of May
Then have a boatload of other cartridges arriving

Haven't spent the time with it that Myles has, but heard it for a couple hours in the Lamm room at CES. It was in good company mated to a Graham Phantom Supreme II on Louis Desjardins' wonderful Kronos turntable. Truly magnificent - if there was a cartridge of the show award, I would have given it to the Uni 2.
