Ivan.......The Meridian Control 15 does present a very attractive design and human interface so I can see the allure but like many have said, there are limitations to its performance and it has a proprietary interface that doesn't seem to allow it to perform its best outside of the Meridian architecture. I think Sooloos was premature in selling to Meridian. Had they remained in business with focus on improving the core product I believe Sooloos would be the dominant force in music servers today. As it currently stands, not so much. I appreciate your honest answer.

Dan, is right. It's an attractive interface. IMHO the sound quality is just not there. I ABed it using my Meitner MA1, Puccini and my K03. It wasn't as good as my X03 playing red book CD's. Never mind my Puccini, K03 or certainly my K-01.

I was not impressed with the 808.3 compared to my X-03SE. Also IMHO the build quality is not great. The plastic CD drawer wasn't high quality.

It's great if you just want to Que up a bunch of stuff to provide background music.

IMHO it's not reference gear.

That is why there are so many choices out there. I have auditioned all of the units you have noted and they all fell short of the 808v3 with the Puccini being a toss up. I owned the X03se and that was dumped in favor of the MCD500 which was then replaced by several CD players/DACs.

I think Ivan would enjoy a C15 with an 818v2 audio endpoint for his reference setup. It's kind of hard not to, especially if coming from all-in-one servers that tries to solve everything with one box.

Sooloos can really expand with a QNAP NAS, good userinterface from the C15 or ipad, multiple audio endpoints around the house. And for the prime setup the sound quality will be there for whatever DAC he wants to mate the 818v2 with while the 818v2 is also competent using its internal DAC as well.

I think Ivan will be pleased.

G997, the Giso GB LAN isolator for audio endpoint is working wonderful and it's not sounding worse with the AudioQuest Diamond RJ/E (RJ45) LAN cable connected.
I think there will be more GISO GB in the system eventually, but enjoying it infront of my ID41 in the 861v8 for now.

I wonder what would happen if you put a K-01 in your system and A/B ed it against the sooloos gear. I bet you would be surprised.

Any way Ivan has reference players out the wazoo.

Meridian Sooloos will not currently output 24/192 even to its own DSP speakers, it downsamples 24/192 to 24/96.

State of the art for Meridian now is the 818v2 + ID41 and the MD600 for storage, or QNAP if you want to go with a generic NAS.

Because I own Meridian DSP speakers, I usually buy 24/96 from HDtracks, etc. The few stereo 24/192 DVD Audio files I ever input into Sooloos downsampled to 24/96 just fine. There have been some rumors that Meridian has made some progress in regards to the sonics of playback of 24/192 ...

Bob Stuart will not release something for "specs", the audio quality has to be up to his high standards.

I have heard the latest Meridian SOTA - 808v6 (with ID41 build-in) + C15 + MD600 linked to the latest DSP8000SE, its about the best (and definitely much better than my previous combo).

Unless one listens to the Sooloos with a complete Meridian set up, one will have that little nit pick about its performance.

Seriously, its so good, it does makes me wonder if I should have this latest set up just for DIGITAL music playback. Its always nice to have 2 separate systems, one for vinyl and one for digital music.

To complete my dream, let me wonder about the colours, ... first I had black DSP8000, then White DSP8000SL ... now DSP8000SE .... Hmmmm, ...... just one day .... just that one day ...

In short, Meridian as an all digital playback combo (from source to speakers) are there with the best. Its just that standalone might just be that tad short to certain "specialists" gears. For sure, its GUI is THE best I have ever used so far (don't know about the Mcintosh MB100 ... which I am also dreaming about for a complete Vintage Mc system ... )

So many desires, so many dreams, so little space, time and money ....

Cheers!

JSCC

What you are referring to is soon to be old Meridian product. C15 is already discontinued. As I said to you once before do not do anything with Meridian until MQA updates, v3 products and the new QNAP app are released.

Hi Jerry,
If you heard an 808.6 you heard the new hardware they are releasing just now. If you heard a previous 808.5 the new breed (818v3 and 808v6) will be a clear step up from the hints we have heard so far..
