DSPeaker-Anti-Mode 8033
This little $350 tweak caught my eye in this months TAS.
DSPeaker-Home I emailed them to inquire about it's usefulness in conjunction with JL's ARO system and this was their reply. "JL subs only have 1 parametric filter, whereas Golden Ear awarded 8033 Anti-Mode has 24 filters with superior resolution per filter, and much more accurate automatic calibration program. Many users of JL Fathom are using 8033 Anti-Mode to get the best possible bass of their system. They got the best result by simply ignoring (bypassing) the JL's equalizer completely. "

Personally I think the ARO in the JL sub works as intended. This seems like a good option for someone with a older sub. without ARO .

The DSpeaker Anti-mode 8033C sounds similar to Room Perfect, but works only for the frequency range of 133Hz and below. It is an interesting device at a very reasonable price.

I think DSP is a phenomenal advancement in the ability of the average guy getting the best out of their system. My Audyssey system makes a noticeable improvement in my room, especially in bass definition. Plus it has a Dynamic EQ feature that automatically compensates for lowered bass perception at less than reference levels.
And my receiver does not have the latest "top of the line" software. That comes next when financially feaseable. The typical receiver user, who did not even own a sound level meter, now has a very simple way to get excellent sound from their speaker/room setup and to maintain that level of quality at every volume level. And you can get it in receivers that sell for about $300 dollars. They still need to go a bit further toward simplfying setup, but it is a huge step in the right direction. The high end is going to find that room DSP is going to have to be standard equipment if they want to capture people moving up from mid-fi, who have had DSP in their system, IMO.

I've considered buying the 8033S for my setup - for music - as I use some B&W CDM1NT bookshelves with an Epik Valor sealed sub. The US distributor is a stones throw from the dojo I practice at in San Diego.
I'm not sure about DSP for high end audio as that would imply some sort of compromise for analog front end sources and pres - you would have to forgo an end to end analog setup to go DSP. Wouldn't the pursuit of room eq be better off by room treatments than doing domain conversions? |

1. Work on placement of speakers/seat first - as best as your room allows 2. Work on Acoustic Room Treatments - Absorption and Diffusion 3. Anti-Mode for the low end - Subwoofer No sound compromise with the 8033...just improved low end which gives you an overall improved sound of your rig. |
