You really need to know that you are purchasing or you could overpay. Your best bet is to go with MM2 (the current versions) unless of course you are talking about Power Cables then the top in MM2x.
Wait.. Now I'm more confused lol. As long as we are talking about new ones, the mm1 is out of the picture completely right?

Yes. It has gone from XL to MM1 to MM2. Only in power cables is there a MM2x for the of the line Reference Powerlink. It went from MM2 to MM2x. That was more than a year ago.

Well, I'm going to New York in August 25. I haven´t decided if I will upgrade my speaker cables to reference level, but I will not loose this oportunity. I will bring home some Transparent Cables.

Ask them if they have any B-stock. I have mostly been getting their B-stock (demo cables without a box) and they are in pretty much brand new condition without the brand new price.

Wow! It's amazing people are able to keep that all straight and like you mention it would be very easy for someone to make a mistake. This would be a big concern for the used market, thinking you are buying something better then you are getting or vice versa. Crazy stuff.

Gotcha, thanks, I always get confused when I see the model ranges thrown around.

Yup, just reference for me as well as I can't afford the others.

I was surprised to learn that even the "basic" reference cable is tuned to your equipment; they won't even start production of the cable until they know the other hardware. I thought it was only the higher level wires that is tuned.

I was further surprised that my dealer needed to know the make/model number of both the preamp and the amp. I get why they need to know the amp, but the preamp?

I'm hoping that it doesn't take to long for me to get the new wires....

The basic Reference level is only tuned for either Hi or Lo Z. They start tuning for specific loads for Reference XL, Reference MM and Opus.
