My fellow vinylists and collectors ... Mahler records are out there. I just received this Third Symphony sealed (!) - a 2 LP album, $20usd (Discogs).
All you need to do is keep an eye out. Mahler 3 Haitink Philips SAL 3593 94 Bernard Haitink recorded the 3rd several times (5?) - he is a true master with this work. The above is his first. Highly recommended! |

^^^^Thank you for the suggestion Tim. I could find it in this set on Qobuz:
Almost 16 hours of music, remastered in the Abbey Road Studios (24/96).

Downloaded the Fischer Budapest 3 and 4 in 64DSD from NativeDSD and they are quite nice—both recording quality and performance.

I've been posting video recordings of my system in my JBL M9500 thread in the JBL forum. Like for most of us, the system is a work in progress and the videos let me capture its sound at a point in time.
It seems appropriate to post this one here: The 1st Movement of Mahler's 2nd Symphony with Leonard Bernstein and the New York Philharmonic. 1. Allegro maestoso (Totenfeier) https://youtu.be/UQ9zb3-ps8M ***** Unfortunately YouTube in their infinite Googleness has blocked that video worldwide! 112 viewers were lucky enough to see it before it was blocked. Too bad, even I thought it was top notch. ***** Analogphonic re-issue (Deutsche Grammophon – 423-395-2) Here's the catch ...to get anywhere close to the video's representation of my in-room experience (which is good) you'll want to playback on something other than a phone or laptop speakers. If you have made or would like to make a video of a Mahler performance on your stereo, feel free to post it here. It would be cool to share those with each other. It's easy to do. All you need is a decent phone, the youtube app and a free account on youtube. Last edited by tima; 12-07-2023 at 11:16 PM. |

Speakers are JBL M9500s and amps are Lamm ML2.2s (18 Watt SET.). You can read a little more about the speakers on AA here. You might like the Beethoven video in (what is for now) the last post of that thread. |
