Which Cinemags though? There is a huge performance jump going from CineMag red-labels to blues, with Sky being slightly better than even the 1131 blues.

A few years ago I auditioned the Hashimoto H7 against a Bob's Devices 1131. Koetsu Onyx and Jade Platinums, Fidelity Research tonearm,VAC Renaissance III w/ phono stage. My system was not as resolving as it is now, but I didn't really prefer one or the other, and kept the lower-cost 1131 (Choir Audio H7 was ~$1800). I would like to try the H7 again now, however.

CineMag 1131 blue if my memory serves, I didn't hear the Sky during that time however. I wonder just how system dependant different SUT's considering the crucial and (hopefully) very short phono interconnect and/or preamp switching in the phono signal path.

Certainly the phono interconnect from a SUT is extremely crucial and should be kept under 1m length. Learned that the hard way!

I always used very short and shielded IC's with my A23 SUTs and never had a hum.
Stephen, in an old post about BOB's Devices SUTs, you stated that you got a hum with it and you resolved it by putting the SUT away from
the phono preamp. So you had to use a longer cable right ?

No, I am still using a 1 meter cable. One 1M cable from the arm to the SUT, and one 1M cable from the SUT to the EAR 324. I got rid of the hum simply by repositioning the SUT near the Gyro rather than the phono stage.

If you wanted a shorter cable without hum you could try a grounded mumetal plate shield between the SUT & the pre. That said positioning experimentation is the first option.

It's also the simplest! 😉

I got it. Thanks Stephen.
Bob recommended to me a Sky 30 for the Vermillion.

But reducing the cable length to 0.5m is definitely better IF you can achieve hum free positioning/screening hence my suggestion [emoji3]

Honestly, its not worth the hassle, cost, or the bother to geek out over. These are first world problems, and one those "pick your battles" situations.

The system sounds bloody fantastic as it is...
