Hard to beat the ease and convenience of my 18-200 Nikon zoom, vrII. It's on my camera 90 percent of the time.

I like the light weight and excellent image quality of the Nikon 16-85 zoom. I also have an 18-200, and image quality is also good, but the "lens creep" drives me crazy.

Whenever I need more speed, I use the tiny and cheap Nikon 35mm F1.8 lens. For distance I like the excellent Nikon 70-300 mm f/4.5-5.6G AF-S VR which is super sharp, yet light and manageable.

When I was younger, I owned and used the big and heavy f2.8 zooms, but now I favor slower, but considerably lighter and less bulky lenses.

I do wish that Nikon would make lenses similar to Canon's 17-40 F/4 and 70-200 F/4 "L" lenses. F4 is fast enough for most purposes and I would assuredly pay more for the superior image quality that could be provided by such lenses.

My camera body of choice is a Nikon D300 and I see no reason to update every time a new body in introduced. I also use a D-90 but wish I had the lighter and smaller D5100 and may make that change.

Mike,

Love my copy too. Somewhat on the heavy side though...the Lady offers to carry it when we take it on our trips. :O

I still have the 24-105 f/4 & it gets a fair bit of use. Hoping for a 24-70 f/2.8 Mark III with IS too!

These new Cinema Pro lenses look interesting, but I think they are even heavier.

Without question, the most fun I've ever had with a lens has been with my Nikkor 14-24mm f2.8. It's big enough to block on camera flash, doesn't accept filters, subject to flare due to its huge field of view, heavy as sin to lug around, but oh so wonderfully clear, crisp, and colorful.
