New Roon Version 1.8 looks amazing...

I am not crazy about the look, which I find stark. I liked all of the information being pretty much “in your face.” I also REALLY dislike there seems to be no way to get the rating stars for each album. I found the stars very helpful when wanting to learn about a new artist with a lot of releases. However, I love the overall functionality of Roon.

Enjoying the 1.8 album recommendations, and finding so much music I wasn’t aware of (didn’t know OMD had come back together for some 2010s offerings).

If streaming and things like valence had been around in high school I would not have graduated...

Since V1.8 was installed and even with the quick update, it seems almost every morning, Roon remote on our iPhones can’t find the ROON core. It will churn and churn and sometimes after 20 minutes, find it. Most of the time, I run out of patience and use the SONOS app.

It usually fixes itself with enough time, occasionally I reboot my Silenzio (Win 7 PC).

Nothing else has changed in my network besides ROON 1.8...

Anyone having similar issues?

I found nothing on the ROON community.

My installation of 1.8 has been rock solid since installation.

My only issue is the reduction in the number of albums that can be displayed on either your laptop or iPad screens.

It seems like the backup functionality went crazy. Although I had it set to do backups every 4 days and keep 20, there were hundreds of backups on my HDD and it basically loaded it up. It seems to have been backing up the Room DB multiple times per day since the update. Changed the backup schedule and deleted over 450 GB of backups!!!

Jim, do you mean the number of albums in the favourites?

Bart, no just the number of albums that are displayed in the album view. They have removed the previous versions option to "show more". On my laptop I can only display 12 (2 rows of 6). On my iPad Pro I can only display 20 in vertical (4 rows of 5) or 18 in horizontal (3 rows of 6). These numbers are down significantly from 1.7 where I could almost double those numbers.

Yes, this is one of the features that I miss as well. It is not possible any more to increase the number of album pictures on the screen and 'show more' when browsing. It is particularly lacking on big displays (for example, with my desktop client, I use 43" Iiyama monitor and album pictures are way too large).
