Reminds me when I was working in the Middle East. I had one of those along with a NAD 3020 and a pair of Rogers LS3/5A speakers with a powered M&K subwoofer. CDs weren't invented yet.

Agree, the black version looks nicer. This deck looks so much bigger than the Dragon,
would it fit the tight surroundings of the cable room?

Only problem is, I would never use it; as evidenced by my never used Nak Dragon.

I agree with Ivan, the black is much better. The limited is too ghetto bling-bling for me. Gold plating belongs on connections, not face plates.
Ivan, you need to get some old tapes out and start using that poor Dragon. It's a shame to have it as a static display, rotting away. That's just a total waste. It should be used, or sold to someone who would maintain it and use it. Heck, I'm using my RX-303 as I write this! On a side note... Call me odd, but if I had my choice of Naks, I would take the 700ZXE over the 1000 any day of the week. To me, it's a much better deck, both in looks and most likely in performance. As it is, I have its baby brother, the LX-3. |

I was an owner of a 1000zxl but sold mine about 3 years ago. Great deck but huge and took up way too much space in my studio. And I liked several of my other Naks better for audio quality. Dragon sounds the best to me from my Nak collection.

The reason to own a 1000zxl Limited is for collectability and/or as a short term 5/10 year investment. They are indeed über rare in mint condition and no tape deck period has appreciated in value like they have. But they are indeed ugly as sin, not very reliable, monstrously huge, & a bear and $$ to have worked on. Your decision should be based on that and not use or sound quality, though properly restored they do sound superb. The gold plating does not have a reputation for durability. They typically sell for $6-8000. I also prefer the looks of the 700zxl or zxe (& obviously like the standard 1000zxl better as well) but they are also quite huge. No other decks will flatten out the FR like the 1000zxl as it uses 4 different frequency points to base the eq on. The 700s only use 3 and the CR-7 only 2. But the W&F of a Dragon or even CR-7 puts the 1000zxl to shame.
