Dan, thanks again for the detailed reply. I was aware of the 20dB shift in the graphs but your comments have put my mind further at rest.

I'm currently finishing reading "Sound Reproduction" by Floyd Toole. An excellent book, highly recommended. In addition to lots of other material, it clearly describes the science behind why speakers such as the JBLs should be/are great. Really interesting reading.

I'd now be very surprised if these don't end up being the speakers I buy.

Thanks also for the great additional pics.

smmbear.......The JBL LSR6328P is designed to be a near field monitor, such as at a mixing console, but they are also quite powerful, and capable of sound pressure levels that can handle a small room with ease. Many mixing consoles in studios around the country use these monitors to do final mixes and mastering. They are flat, and smooth sounding across the audio frequency spectrum. The LSR6328P's also use JBL's room mode correction system, with controls that allow you to adjust the speakers curve based on where it is placed. The photo below shows a pair of JBL LSR6328P's at the mixing console. http://www.jblpro.com/catalog/suppor...pe=3&docid=568

The sound of the LSR6328P's is smooth and neutral. The are very accurate near field monitors, and do not have exaggerated mids or top end. You won't find yourself reaching for the volume to turn them down. In fact, it is quite the opposite, you tend to keep easing them up because they sound so sweet. If a recording is good, the LSR6328P's sound fantastic. If the recording is poor, it will be revealed for exactly what it is. These speakers tell it like it is. The JBL LSR6300 series speakers don't get much press in audiophile magazines, but in publications for the professional and home recording fields, the JBL LSR6300 series has been well received.

Vintage Pete heard the complete JBL LSR 6300 system yesterday at my home, the LSR6332, LSR6328P, and LSR6312SP subwoofer He was awe struck. We had the theater jumping, and it sounded wonderful.

Can anyone recommend a seller of the 6328's that ships overseas? I'm after someone that could be trusted to do a good job with packaging etc.

Prices here in Australia are considerably higher than in the US and if I can't get a good deal locally I'm thinking of importing.

Vintage Pete, you're a lucky man to have heard Dan's setup - can't imagine it not sounding great.

well just an update i bought 3 for 1032.00 shipped each new . i have the 2 mains up and running had to make some temp stands . any recommendations on tweeter hight ? first thought are nice not bright very neutural .the metal tweeters where a big concern but not anymore they are very smooth . they sound great and do better on bad recordings than i thought they would . no compression at all even at 100spl sitting position they just want more . these things would be easy to blow they dont change with watts and are hard to gauge just how loud they are playing . i have a bad cold right now and dont have them placed perfectly yet so not saying anything more yet.

i will say it was a PITA to get the mid assemblys turned when i finaly got the assembly to release from the gasket i found the wires are zip tied because they are long so i had to take the woofer out to cut the zip tie to extend the mid assemly wires to rotate them .

i have the tweeters at 39 inches high and my sitting position is about 38 . they seem to through sound high in the room . they are not optomaly placed side to side because i have a 120 screen so i cant bring them closer together. thanks for the help guys.

Congrats on the purchase Let us know how you find them once you've had more time with them.

BTW, where did you end up purchasing from?

i bought them from ims

they where very good to work with and highly recommend them . my center was droped by fed ex and ims sent out the other before the first one was sent back . that was very cool of them so i had it just in time for the holiday .

these really are great speakers very linear super clean and acurate they through a very open sound and dynamic . the down side is i have a room induced resonace at the lower vocal its almost beaming . i have to pick up a mic pre amp and run room eq to see what is happening . i had people over for the first time and they all agreed the dyns could not stand up to the jbls (dynaudio audience 82) it was like lifting a vail off .for movies the accuracy and dynamics are bar none fantastic they just pull you in so much farther than the dyns and can be down right spooky with there detail.

the dyns are a very good speaker and up untill these jbls i could not best them . even if the beaming is the speaker and not the room they are still better than the dyns . the only way to make the jbls better would be to have the capability to play 120 128 spl each that would be a awsome speaker .

smmbear,

Glad to hear you're enjoying your JBLs - hopefully you can sort out the beaming problem. Also seems like you got quite a deal on them. Though their 6328 prices are not as good, I might still ask them for an international quote.

Regarding SPL levels, do you seriously want speakers that play that loud? I'd imagine that would lead to pretty bad hearing loss in no time.
