New MCD12000

Another happy camper here. I've had mine for about a month now and absolutely love it! To my ears the DAC sounds even better than the D1100 and the spinner is dead quiet. No meter issues with mine either. I went from 2 boxes to one by trading in my D1100 and MCT450 towards it.

This unit looks and probably sounds amazing, but does seem to be a little late in the game. I remember when CD's came out, the same year as Dire Straits' Brothers in Arms album. So what, 40 years later they come out with a CD player? Seems a better move would be to compete with Hifi Rose.

Your memory is playing tricks on you. The CD debuted in 1982, which would correspond to the release of Love Over Gold.

But I think I may know how you made this error. When Brothers In Arms was released in 1985, there was no LP made available, at least in the US. And that's what drove me to finally buy my first CD player.

The unavailability of vinyl is also what drove me to buy my first CD player, in 1989. Only in my case it was Supertramp's Breakfast in America that I could not find. So, that was my very first CD, and I still have it. The CD player I brought home with it, a cheap Sanyo that you could literally twist, is of course long gone.

It was only last year I bought a Mobile Fidelity Sound Labs pressing of Breakfast in America, to spin on my VPI Prime Signature Rosewood.

It's heavenly.

I love SACDs and buy them on a regular basis, so not too late in the game for me
