Add the DA2 Module and you have a piece that accomplishes virtually 99% of all high-end needs for years to come. Anyone reading this thread should read all the literature including the OM concerning this piece. The tuner module may be more advanced than a MR87.

Thanks Charles for the positive comments about my MAC7200, the tuner sounds very nice. I spent some time this morning listening to The Blues Hangover on my favorite station WHRB in Cambridge and it was the best I had ever heard it. The tuner yields perfectly black backgrounds with a very natural music presentation with great imaging.

I ordered my Mac with the stock DA1 which I had in the MA5300 I traded up from so I'm very familiar with its performance and sound quality. I use it with an MCT80 and find it more than adequate for the playback of my SACDs and CDs. The DA2 is definitely something to aspire to but at the moment I'm content with digital playback to the extent I've taken it and totally enamored with SACD and CD like vinyl as a physical format.

Purchased this one used in 2004. Periodically think about selling it but like to listen from time to time. In the Hudson Valley, NY, Vassar College 91.3 has some good programming.

John, as you know the MR85 was the staple in the Mac lineup for years. It does not have digital tuning or an A/D converter. However, it's a tremendous tuner in its own right and a beautiful piece.

Best

Charles....that's a fact. In fact, I've toyed with the idea of adding one to my fleet more than once!

Trompeta, the MAC7200 is a piece that sits in the Mac lineup very much like MC303. Neither receive much press compared to the more glitzy gear line the 901 or the MA12000 or MA9000. If I were going to buy a speaker that allowed for tri-amping, the MC303 would be my choice including the XRT2.1K. Both the MAC7200 and the MC303 are remarkable values.

For me speakers that offer tri-amping ought to be tri-amped if possible because there is no question, if the speaker is so designed, it will sound better that the passive route. However, this is extremely expensive to accomplish correctly because of additional cables, amps, etc. The MC303 totally solvers this problem. Likewise, the MAC7200 solves these types issues for speakers that do not need tri or bi-amping. It's a great piece of gear that can be the hub of a high end sound system for years to come. Nobody but Mac makes gear like a 7200 or 303. They are quite unique. Having a built in MR87 is remarkable.

Best

The tuner in MX130 is great. I can't believe how clean the sound is. Zero background noise.

It's a beautiful piece both visually and sonically. Post a pic if you can.
