Default Esoteric K-05 ..Thoughts..

I currently have both the Sony SCD 777ES and the XA777ES SACD,s players. I am thinking of a change and am interested in the Esoteric K-05 .

Compared to some players i have auditioned the Sony,s are both very detailed , but sometimes a little harsh and dry.
I have read some comments that the K-05 is "warm" sounding......this worries me a little as it sometimes means lacking in detail ??

The rest of my system is as follows..

Speakers...Duntech Sovereign
Amps........Manley Labs Neo Classic 250 Monblocks
Pre...........Manley Labs Shrimp
Phono.......Manley Labs Chinook
Turntable...VPI Classic 2
CD/SACD...Sony SCD777ES - Sony SCD XA777ES

Could i get some feedback on anybody who has heard either of the Sony players vs the Esoteric.

Thanks for any input..

The K05 is far superior to the Sony in every facet of sound quality, it is warm but not lacking in detail. It also has four digital filters which let you tailor the sound character. Get the K05 and never look back, you'll love it.

Good choice. I think you'll enjoy the K-03.

I don't think it's hype--it really does sound quite amazing. I absolutely love mine. (I'd love it more if I didn't have to switch the output from XLR to RCA in order to listen to headphones. Not ha huge deal. Sometimes, however, I forget to switch it back, and I think my system has died!)

I have a SCD777ES and upgraded to a K03 from Ivan. Such a better player and fantastic dac too. I am sure the k05 would be a great update. The sony has a killer transport and it's day was a top notch unit, but the transport and lasers in the Esoteric are top notch. Not only is it a great sacd player, but it really shines even on standard red book disc too

You made the right decision to upgrade.

Those Soverign's deserved a far better DAC. I haven't heard those in eons, but absolutely loved them when I did.

Thanks for the replies,

My K03 arrives in a few days time.

From what everybody is telling me i am glad i went for the K03 over the K05...really looking forward to it.

Regarding the "old" Duntech Sovereign,s...after auditioning many new speakers with some fairly hefty price tags attached ..i have even more respect for these old classic,s...they still do themselves proud even today..

I own K05 for 2 years now and before that, Marantz SA11S2.
k5 is NOT "warm sounding" to me. Not when compared to the Marantz I owned.
In fact, it has very little character of its own.
