Double-check this but it looks like you need to max out the impedance to 1000 ohm (1 Kohm)...

DV 10X5

SPECIFICTIONS
Type High output moving coil cartridge with flux damper and softened magnetism
Output Voltage 2.5mV (at 1KHz, 5cm/sec.)
Channel Separation 25 dB (at 1KHz)
Channel balance 1.0 dB (at 1KHz)
Frequency response 20 - 20,000Hz (± 2dB)
Compliance 12 x 10-6 cm/dyn
Tracking force 1.8 - 2.2 grams
DC resistance R=150 ohms
Recommended load
impedance >1K ohms

Cantilever 6mm length aluminium pipe

I was told that high output Mc is used with the mm input?

I don't think that input has an impedance setting.

2.5mV output... I guess you could use it with a low volume position on the MM, but why not just use the MC with an additional 20 dB since it's maximum input is 5mV and you can properly set up the Load Impedance? What is your volume position using the MM input...pretty high I'm guessing?

It's high output so you can get MC performance without having to buy a step-up transformer. Fortunately, the 2300 comes with an MC input... Not sure MC will be better, but maybe worth trying out to compare?

Input Impedance
Phono MM, 47K ohms; 50 to 750pF, in 50pF steps
Phono MC, 25, 50, 100, 200, 500 or 1,000 ohms; 100pF

Maximum Input Signal
Phono MM, 50mV
Phono MC, 5mV

Voltage Gain
Phono MM to Record Output: 40dB
Phono MC to Record Output: 60dB

Can you use an HO MC cart with the MC input? Anyone doing this? Pros/cons?

Default azimuth

For azimuth use the metal rod and put it in the head shell(if you cant find it use angel hair pasta or graphite for a mechanical pencil) measure from a crap record to the rod on each side of the cartridge with the stylus in the groove about a third of the way in. they should be the same distance.

For inputs I would use a HOMC into MM input. I always use the least amount of gain I need, in order to prevent unwanted noise.

Good luck
Jeff
BTW just set up my classic 3 last night, smokes my old aries

Thanks, I finally got it set up pretty good, but my dealer wants me to bring it in to check everything. I think I will go through the trouble, so that I can see how he does it, and compare to what I learned. I should have a pretty good idea of all the different techniques after this (between my reading, what I tried and worked and didn't work, and what the dealer does).

As for the input, I will stick to MM, because it sounds GREAT. What an awesome TT.

Dealer wants you to bring it in? I would not move it once it is set up.

Yeah...not ideal, but it will be good to set it up with his help to make sure I'm doing things right, and i can readjust if necessary. I'm all about learning.

Guys...holy crap the classic is good! I've never had a "real" turntable until now. Never imagined how much it would surpass digital! It's mind blowing.

Now I gotta buy a bunch of $50 180g vinyl. Ugh. Well I've been pretty lucky with used vinyl at some local shops. But now I want to push the envelope and get good quality stuff to see what she can really do!
