I have 4 weeks on my humble Super level Gen 6s (672 hours). Yesterday while watching the Olympics I noticed the sound improved some more. This was a pleasant surprise. My experience with Transparent is they really need a long time to break in.
I've been dealing with hardness in television broadcaster voices. Sound tended to be hard. Yesterday I noticed this went away. These sounds are more relaxed, more resolved. Cables are really coming along. Compared to my old Gen 1's I notice more nuances in the backing vocals and accompanying musicians. It is easier to hear techniques that the musicians are doing such as fingers on guitar strings, piano notes from key strikes to the hammer on the strings, to the decay in the piano box. Male opera arias are reproduced effortlessly. I'll do more critical listening after the Olympics. I am so happy with the results I ordered a second balanced interconnect to use with my new DAC (my Bryston is still on back order). |

Moving up the steps will be more beneficial than moving G5 to G6 of the same steps. In my experience XL G5 was outstanding too, but it didn’t have the final magic of opus G5 in some ways. Toga Last edited by TOGA; 08-05-2021 at 01:04 PM. |

I might be wrong to described new sound of OBL G6 as thick.
It provided a lot more of bloom and details and richness in the lower mid to upper bass. More than I accustomed to. This relatively made me find treble a little too polite as the lower range over powering it. The tonal balance then shifted which I will have to readjust my ears . I compensate this by switching Esoteric clock to normal ground mode in stead of adaptive ground mode. Relocated power cords. And most effective of all, plugging front ends into Oyaide R1 instead of Furutech GTX NCF. These helped slim down the sound to my preference. I am not talking about soundstage or all those other audiophile magic because I am not there yet. The tonal balance must be right for me first before I can concentrate on something else. Toga |

Does anyone have any thoughts on whether moving from Gen 5 Balanced Reference Interconnect up to Gen 5 Balanced Reference XL Interconnect would be worth it?
I have Ref Gen 5 power cords and Isolator Reference on both components and speaker cable is MM2 Gen Reference. Gen 6 is a little out of reach.

XL is huge improvement over Reference , the openness and transparency in the upper frequency especially. But that depends on how well the rest of the cables will allow That improvement to show. Toga Last edited by TOGA; 08-09-2021 at 02:37 PM. |

Any update on the Opus Gen 6 Toga? Should have a few hundred hours on them now.

Do you think XL throws a wider soundstage than Reference?
