Actually I was thinking about the 5D3. It really is close to perfect. I mean - what more could you want?
The sensor is probably the most advanced ever made, and probably better than any other sensor on the market save for Canon's own 1DX and perhaps Nikon's D4. The D800 has 36MP (yes) but it is said to be have inferior high ISO performance compared to the 5D3. And besides - why do you want 36MP? If you buy this camera, chances are it will take years before other cameras catch up. My 5D Mk.1 still produces superior images to most other cameras, even if it is no longer competitive against other full frame cameras. 61 point autofocus from the 1-series. Again this is superior to anything else on the market save for Nikon's own professional cameras. If there is a better AF system, I would like to hear of it. The 63 element colour aware metering is not as good on paper as Nikon's 1001 point colour metering, but it is still a step of over what was previously offered. The build quality is said to be as good as the 1-series. One pundit said that if you were blindfolded, you would think you were holding a 1-series without the battery grip. Dual card slots is a great feature on pro cameras and it's good to see it here. Set one as your main and the other as your backup, and you won't lose any images from a faulty CF card ever again. You could quibble about the price, but none of us will know until we get to handle and compare the images of the 5D3 side by side with the D800. But right now, I can't think of how Canon could have done a better job with the 5D3. It really is an awesome camera.

I would go for the Nikon D800E instead of the Canon 5D MKIII
I have been using the Hasselblad H4D40, which has no AA filter, and I am sold on this technology. I think the Nikon D800E is the way to go if you are a landscape/nature photographer.
For sports, children, event and other action photography, the new flagship cameras from Canon and Nikon are superior. You have to choose the correct tool for the application. I also think Nikon is also planning on producing new high-resolution optics to handle the 36MP sensor. You really haven't seen what an imaging system is truly capable of until you have seen large scale prints made from 40MP and higher medium format sensors, using Rodenstock and Schneider HR optics! Canon and Nikon will have to create optics specifiically designed for their new 36MP+ sensors. Wishing you great light and images, Mike |

I am both a still and video shooter. I was one of those guys that would check out Canon rumor sites at least once a month to find out when the new 5D Mark III would be released. I think all these new cameras from Canon and Nikon can shoot fantastic stills, but for me the video possibilities are what blows me away and the Mark III looks like its going to be living with me real soon.
