In the late 70's I owned a pair of R123.
My son has a pair of TR 125's in his room and recently I purchased a pair of 2235H woofers to be used in a full range system with Altec 604-8H duplex speakers. Keeping it in the lansing Family. It's GREAT to see a JBL forum at AA! Anthony

I bought a pair of L100's in the early '70s. Still have them and will probably never get rid of them. The foam grills have been replaced and some of the foam surrounding the tweeters has begun to deteriorate. They still sound great. I enjoy them as part of my 2 channel home theatre.

There are a lot of JBL owners, and fans lurking in the shadows.

You never know, you might also have some Altec fans in the shadows. Altec speakers (Not computer speakers) are still being manufactured and supported by Great Plains Audio.Great Plains Audio's Homepage

I, for one, listen to my McIntosh gear through JBL speakers. I have been a collector for years and have a rather large collection. There are many places in our home where there are McIntosh systems set up and in each location there are at least one set of JBL's and in many cases multiple JBL set ups. My main listening area uses the JBL 250Ti. They sound very much like the Mac LS-360's. I grew up in a home where JBL was the speaker of choice. I guess I have just gotten used to the sound they put out. Even when I was selling audio (late 80's early 90's) and I was around many high end speaker brands and could buy them for half cost I still stuck with JBL! To my ears nothing sounds as good. Keep in mind were talking vintage gear now. If I could afford some of the high end stuff they are producing today I'd have those, but for now, being semi retired, I'm happy with what I've got and I know that many JBL guys would drool over the collection I've put together. Cheers, Frank

Frank.......The JBL 250Ti is a sweet speaker. I was pretty hot for a pair of the Limited Edition 250Ti speakers back in the early 90's.
Have your 250Ti's needed the woofers refoamed?

Dan, I was able to pick up a pair of new Drivers when they needed to be redone. I have since had the original ones redone and have them as a spare pair. I also own the 240Ti, 120Ti, and the 18Ti. Our home is furnished with teak woods so they are a natural when the situation requires it! All the other JBL's I own are in the Walnut finish except for the L-36 which are in oak and my 2KTi's are in beech along with the matching center channel speaker. The biggest part of the collection is in my basement audio museum, as my wife calls it. Right now my biggest job is to get the "museum" organized. It's hard to even walk in there right now. I need to get everything where it needs to be so the display looks nice and also so I can listen to every one of them. I have several projects waiting for me right now involving veneering. I have a set of the L-300's that I've always wanted to recover in Teak veneer. Maybe they could move on up to the living room someday. I know some guys say don't do it they will drop in value. That's only true if I wanted to sell them, which I don't. The ones I have sport JBL blue grilles. I also have a second set of L-36's that I plan to recover in rosewood. These also have the blue grilles and would set off very nicely in that combination. Another project I'm playing with is to rebuild the fretwork grilles for a set of Apollo's. It's going pretty good so fair, but it takes lots of time and a stead hand and a good eye to be sure the parts I'm replacing are of the same vintage as the ones I'm working on. These grilles seem to be in all different thicknesses of wood so finding a match takes time. Then sometimes once built it ends up being larger then the frame work it needs to fit into. Hey it keeps me off the streets! Cheers, Frank

Tony, right now I'd look at the JBL LS series. Very nice sound in a very good looking cabinet. (Several different models in the line up) The only catch is to fine them. I don't mean just so you can listen to them, but to find a dealer anywhere that has any in stock. JBL seems to be playing some stupid game and keeping the US market out of bounds for their speakers. You got to look real hard to seek out a source for them and then be willing to buy them without hearing them. "TRUST in JBL" they should call it. Perhaps in New York, LA, or Chicago you can fine dealers that stock them. Alot of the big buck speakers they offer now are available in the US, but the cost is way up there and at least in my area (Michigan) no one is stocking any of them. Gone are the days of walking into the local HiFi shop and being able to listen to JBL. Most of us just keep the vintage stuff up and running and keep wishing that maybe someday JBL will once again offer what they sell in Japan to the US market. I have no idea where I'd put any more however! Cheers, Frank
