Default PB1i vs OB1i, worth the price diff?

I love PMC speakers. I think they have world class mids and imaging to die for. However, I also think they are over priced. When you compare the fit and finish of even a B&W PM1 to the PMC PB1i at 4 times the price, it's no contest. And why the crazy price jump from OB1i to PB1i? I mean, the OB1i is already very steeply priced for what you get.

But, I digress. I know the PB1i has an extra bass driver and 4 extra hz of bass. And I know that the bass drivers are different, but the mids and tweets are the same and the box is very close in size to the OB1i. Yet it's priced like 50% more than the OB1i. This seems crazy. Anybody think the PB1i is really worth all that extra doe?

I would listen to both the PB1i and OB1i and see which you prefer. I was able to compare the EB1i's with the PB1i's and thought they sounded very different. I never heard the OB1i's. I also think the PMC's are very expensive for their fit and finish as well as their box shape. I do love the sound that comes out of my EB1i's though, which made me purchase them.

I don't understand the fit and finish complaints about PMC speakers. I auditioned a friend's OB1i's, then purchased my EB1i's for there wonderful sound and good looks. The cabinet designs are typical British boxes, but the cherry veneer work all around looks excellent on my speakers and integrates in a nice low key manner with the living room's furnishings. Is the finish equal to my Sonus Fabre Amati Anniversario speakers? No, but at half the retail cost I don't expect that level of finish. None the less, I still find the PMC EB1i's to be well made and quite attractive. Best of all, they sound amazing. I have owned them for four years without the first itch to replace them with something else. For me, that tells the whole story.

I have no plans to ever replace my EB1i's unless I move to a much smaller place at retirement time. I have to say they are boxy looking though. I prefer the look and finish of the B&W 802's, smaller and more attractive in my opinion but I much preferred the sound by far of the EB1i's with my system.

I have thought about going to the EB1i's but the price stopped me. I should probably go listen to the PB1i's, but I really like my OB1's.

I really like how PMC spends the majority of what they spend on the SQ instead of how the speaker looks which is how it should be done, besides they have plenty of WAF anyway.
