This amp reminds me of D'A's Master Reference mono blocks Krell used to produce. Those amps (each one) were the much larger than the Master Reference subwoofer and they required 240 volts. They were class A with a bias circuit and had an enormous number of Motorola output devices.

I think the Boulder 3000 Series looks great, and who cares in reality what it looks like?? I thought audio gear was for, uh, an audio encounter?? Most of the audio crazies I know are like me, they do their serious listening with the lights low or off.....
Let's face it, there is plenty of ugly audio gear out there that probably sounds better than it looks....and is this not the point??? Finally, Boulder is keeping PLENTY busy selling the 3000 Series they build, so there must be plenty out there who thinks the gear looks just peachy Give me a pair of 3050's with a pair of either Focal's Grande Utopia EM's or Wilson XLF's and I suspect one would have a jeans wetting experience!! Cheers,

Why would you listen with the lights low or off?? That sure does't help the sound.
If it doesn't look good it sure isn't finding a place in my set-up no matter how it sounds. Last edited by Still-One; 11-03-2013 at 11:20 AM. |

I asked Dan why Boulder designed such massive, powerful amps & he told me the reason was mainly demand in the Chinese market for bigger, more powerful amps (seems to be a status thing). Boulder determined there was a business case, and the 3000 series was born. At the same time I think they realized their 2000 series (especially the 2010) needed an update (even relative to Boulder's normal product life cycle).
