Today I went back to take another listen to the 50's. These guys are selling so many of them that they admit it's hard to keep a well broken in model on the floor. The pair I listened to were not bad, but not up to what both -E- and the salesperson describe. This sales person used words such as "a wall of fluid sound." "Smooth, velvety." I begged him not to sell what's on the shop floor and keep breaking them in, because both he and I did not hear velvety, smooth, nor fluid. I should be able to get back in there a week from now, with my own music, and will have them all to myself, hopefully. You've really got me curious, especially for desk use. I have nothing right now, and these may not be near field, but if they do the job, I'd be very interested.

Neither - they are right in between.
You should tell your dealer to just keep his pair on 24/7 so they break in... really all they needed in my case to get to that sweet spot was about 50 hours.
