AQ4L..... I love your MC 2301s with the 800s! Are you liking the new speakers more?

My favorite is the MC501. Not because I own them, but because of their compact size compared to the other behemoths. The MC830 or MC301 would be contenders assuming they sound as good as my 501s, if not better, were I in the market for replacements and cash flow agreed with that pursuit.

Long live the 501
I have three of them sitting idle, but I can't bring myself to put them on the market.

Thank you. Yes, and yes…I am loving the new speakers more. They offer a whole new and very inviting panoramic view of music compared to the B&W 800s. The B&Ws were no slouch mated to the MC 2301s, they just were not up to the level of dynamic playback and information retrieval at lower listening levels. In comparison, I had to run the 2301s at 100 watts or more to make the B&Ws sing, and with the new speakers, 3, 30, and 100 watts are way more than enough to get that same loudness. I loved how the B&Ws sounded when played loud, but at lower levels, they sounded congested.

My all time favorite mono blocks were Mc 3500's. I used them for PA work and they sounded great even with the meters above 0 and the meter lamps dimming on loud passages driving both Altec and JBL Systems. They made Bozak Concert Grands get up and talk with authority even though 35 watts was all you ever needed. My second favorite our my new MC830's driving a pair of 4 ohm XRT-28 line array speakers. Most of the time its between 3 and 6 watts for casual listening, serious listening 100 watt peaks. Yes I have pegged the meters a few times over 600 watts with out the power guard flashing and the sound remained smooth well definded and grabbed and shook my thighs -with great affect. The amps can delicate too and the sound is so life like playing great direct to disc LP's and telarc and Reference Recordings CD's.
