You have the D1100, I say add the MCT500. No need for the MCD1100 or MCD600. I have the MCT450/D1100 combo and highly recommend it. For me, I could not stand mixing a silver box with the rest of my McIntosh gear so I sold my Esoteric K01X. No regrets here.

What kind of differences in sound between McIntosh D1100+MCT450 and Esoteric K-01X?

I have. Marantz, two different Macs and two different Pioneers, and the Macs using either optical, Coax, or balanced outputts easily out perform the others. Now I will admit my Pioneer Combi Laser player will play CD's and DVD's when none of the others will. Even when I had Sony ESS players the Macs were better sonically and the old Pioneer better Mechanically. Put an ugly thumb or finger print on a disc and the Pioneer is the best player hands down. But sonically its a flop. The 861 and 891 sound amazingly alike. And the MX i5i has really improved the sound. No matter the format. I still prefer DVD-A.

Great combination and I agree with you. For the money Mac is by far and away the best value on the high end market. It is competitive with the best costing many thousands of dollars more. For me it is a question of best deployment of limited capital. I think a D1100/450 combo competitive with anything. I have always felt that speakers make the most difference. If I hit the lottery maybe I will get a Vivaldi or Accuphase, etc. but I doubt I would. My plan right now is to have the best Mac digital minimalist preamp and best mono amp. I like this plan and I can afford it. The raw power of an Alexx/Thor/1.25 KW system must be heard to be believed. And there are times when I really turn it up that it will hit peaks of 700-800 watts although the vast majority is < 12. The Thor rarely hits 120 but easily goes down to 14 Hz. The control and sensitivity of the sub woofer system increased exponentially with the addition of the 1.25 and the new cable/pc/IC. Most of the time the Thor loafs along at 1.2 watts. It's incredibly efficient below 30 Hz. I'm totally satisfied with Mac .

Hi guys, I have a question about the MCD600 vs the MCT500.

I currently have a dac in my setup already, but thinking if I should get the MCD600 still. I am thinking would the dac built in be a better combo than using it with my dac?

2nd, I always have a different setup in my room with the MA5300. Are there dac the same? I upgraded mine to a DA.

Thanks

A Mac transport will only decode SACD with a Mac DAC that has an MCT connection.
