Rotel RB-1090 amp with RC-1082 pre. Great budget gear in my opinion. 385 watts into 8 ohms, 700 into 4 ohms, and 1000 watts into 2 ohms. I had the RB-1080 before this. At 200 watts into 8 ohms, I did notice a difference moving up to the RB-1090

I'm sure the Rotel RB-1590/RC-1082 sounds great. I've listened at length to the decedent of the RB-1090: The RB-1590 with the RC-1590.

At that level Rotel gear offers huge power, great functionality and excellent sound. I should just get the RB/RC 1590 duo and be done with it........

Cheers,

Scott

I think it's pretty damn good for the money to be honest. It's surprising how good Rotel can be when you compare it to Classé. Classé is most definitely in a league of its own, just a surprise how good "budget" gear can be. It's nice that B&W Group has Rotel as an option for the more budget conscious customers. The cost difference of getting my dream Rotel gear vs my dream Classé is staggering.

Classe:
CA-M600 $7000 x 4 = $28000
CP-800 = $5000
CDP-202 = $6500
$39500

Rotel:
RC-1590 = $1750
RB-1590 $3000 x 2 = $6000
RCD-1570 = $1000
$8750

But honestly I don't think I'll go up to the 15 series. One day I'd like to get another 1090 and bi-amp my speakers. I'm a bit of a power head haha. And I love how good it looks having a big amp beside each speaker.

I listened to the Rotel 1585 and it's very good. Doesn't sound thin like most amps today.

Rotel 5 channel (15 years old) with CDM-9s, and CDM1s. pretty good, especially ok for movies. Replaced Rotel with Parasound A-51 5 channel. Significant improvement all around.

B&W 802 matrix (20 years old) -
Krell KAV-250i - extremely good. First time I ever heard really great sound at home.
Parasound JC-2 and JC-1s. Much improved over the Krell but still not super.

B&W 802D2 (sold the older 802s)
Parasound JC-2 with JC-1s. Really great sound across the spectrum but not extremely musical.

Current Setup:
Traded Parasound for used ARC-250SEs and new REF-6. 80 hours to date and everything is completely new. So powerful, musical, articulate, detailed, involving. Several people told me that ARCs don't go with B&W - I decided to try them out anyway, and the sound is amazing.

Best amp I tried on my end, not sure if that's what the OP was asking... best amp for me was/is the Boulder 2060, no contest. Tried Rotel 1590, Classe CAM600, Cary 211FE, MAC 601
